Re: X-men producer confims multiple sequels. Which storylines should they use?

Allow me to excuse the fact that I have no faith in the Hollywood system, nor do I hold the belief that any future X sequels will bring to our screens, be they big or small, the very best that the X-Universe has to offer. However, allow me to suspend my disbelief for a second and, to coin a well used Marvel phrase, wonder 'What If...?"
What if...
We ended up at a point where the X sequels were, say, 5 strong, having introduced to fans and newbies alike the wonders of the X-Men outside of the much-loved Wolverine and , ahem, Cyclops...
Imagine we have seen the likes of Gambit (!), Psylocke, Cable, Bishop (imagine that; 'Big gun-toting freaks in successful hollywood franchise shocker!'). Characters with substance, depth, that kick so much ass that they would be perfect for the big budget outings a Marvel franchise commands.
But that to me is inevitable, and I will inevitably be disappointed with the lack of ambition shown by the screen writers when using the abundance of source material available.
But this is about me suspending my disbelief. So I'm going to come right out and mention just a few of the classic and, damn it, SCREEN WORTHY story lines at the disposal (hehe) of the future X-screenwriters...
THE DARK PHOENIX SAGA
Okay, from the trailer for X3, I think that they might have this one covered, but there is no way they will go all out and have Miss Jean Grey be as nasty as she was in the comic. Shame...
THE BROOD
Too easy! X-Men meet Vampire like demon creature thingys. Whackiness ensues! Doesn't even need a budget by Hollywood standards...
They could probably do this one with the remnants of the cutting room floor from X1/2/3 and some work experience kid with a MAC and a dream.
FATAL ATTRACTIONS
I'm going to say this as clearly as possible:
MAGNETO TEARS THE ADAMANTIUM OUT OF WOLVERINES BODY
Do I need to go on?
Oh okay...
One of the great WTF! moment in comicbook history. Plus Prof X wipes Magnus' mind. This causes a dark entity to fester, as it turns out, for quite some time. However, when it manifested itself, things really got interesting...
ONSLAUGHT
Oooo.. we won't even go there. Well maybe just a lttle.
Far too long to explain here, but if you're unfamiliar and, indeed, interested, check this out:
[url=http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onslaught_Saga]
In a nutshell, the Onslaught saga is far too much of a leap to ever make it to a cinema screen. But for the purpose of this debate - actually no it would just go horribly wrong, turn fans away in droves and make me despise the moving image and curse CGI. Much like 'Spawn' did...
Now...
I've tried to put it off, I know it could only be done anything that even remotely resembles justice with an epic animated series, but, in the spirit of "What If..."
THE AGE OF APOCALYPSE
The daddy, as it were, of all X stories (and yes it is up for debate, but no, you are wrong, and yes, it is!)
So much happened in such a relatively short space of time and the X-Men have never been the same (or to my mind, as entertaining) since. Good became bad, the familiarly evil became a force for good, and Magneto ripped Apocalypse in half... Oh yeah... "Spoiler Alert"... Whatever.
Cyclops, while living up to his name, was "bad" and evn... bearable.
Wolvey got the girl, but lost a hand.
The M'Kraan Crystal!
For more info, or to find out what the hell an "M'Kraan Crystal" is:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Age_of_Apocalypse
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%27Kraan_Crystal
It made me chuckle to see that Wikipedia have an entry for the M'Kraan Crystal - look I can't stop saying it!
But the biggest and best thing for me was someting so simple yet so affecting: Magneto was the leader of this universe's X-Men!
With Prof X gone, murdered by his own time-travelling maniac son, and dying in the arms of his best friend Magneto, the world is a very different place. In fact it is owned, in evry sense of the word by Apocalypse (Big guy, ancient, kept at bay by the original X-Men... Umm check him ut on Wikipedia!). A world without hope, but with a colletion of great stories, excellent twists on some of the biggest Marvel chracters (Beast, a gentle giant - check out Wikipedia for more info! - transformed into a depraved and sadistic genetic scientist, being one of my favs). It was long over due and a must read for any X-Fan, new or old. But who am I kidding, if you're an 'old' fan, you have every issue, bagged, boarded and treasured.
I can't even talk about this saga without feeling a deep sense of child-like awe welling up inside of me... Too much? I think just enough to make me never, and I mean never, want to see this masterpiece of modern graphic literature raped by a studio eager to sell merchandise. Harsh, but any one who is familiar knows this to be true, and if we get as far as it would take for the movie to even make sense, then it will be all about those lunchboxes and, I'm guessing, wolverine claws as playstation x peripherals. That would be cool... But I digress... Tangent anyone?
That's my two cents on this whole thing. If someone (god forbid) has differing/supporting/flaming comments, feel free. But just ask yourself one question:
Will we ever see an X-Men movie that sucks in an audience in the same way as those who have read any number of X-Men tales over the years in their comicbook form? Can live-action do it justice?
Don't get me wrong, I really enjoyed the first two films, and will probably enjoy the third (Angel, anyone?!), but I can't help feeling that there could be so much more...
But I won't dwell on it...
Just for the record, I'm not affiliated with Wikipedia in any way, but it is an incredibly handy resource if, when you are asked to write about something, you forget just about everything you ever knew about it. So there.
Later

P.S. I'm supplying on Friday!
Respect the M'Kraan Crystal!
