Shredded Rafts
I feel like I just lost an entire crew because I ignored the math and did what makes sense.
If you need to have a controlled bail out over water, each crewman has a survival probablility of 70/216=32% (that's 35/36 for an successful controlled bail out, and 2/6 to be rescued).
On the other hand, if you ditch without rafts, your crew all lives or dies together, with a 6/36=17% chance of survival.
Regardless of the specific probabilities, it seems like parachuting into the water really should be worse then stepping into the water with whatever can be salvaged from the sinking plane (raft of empty ammo boxes? flare pistols?).
The -6 on table G-10 if the rafts are destroyed (listed inside the back cover of the rules) seems like overkill (so to speak) to me.

Re: Shredded Rafts
Hi,
looking through pink sheet P-3 [L] bomb bay, I see all damage effects as B-17 except 4 = superficial damage = no effect ,
this would have been rubber rafts in B-17
BL-1[L] WINGS states roll on Table G-10 is -2
what is the probability there ?
especially with 50/50 ? on which wing is hit
Kev

Re: Shredded Rafts
The errata inside the back cover of the standard rules changes the -2 for rafts destroyed to -6. I assumed that would apply to the Lancaster, as well (although I'd never noticed that it was -2 on the Lancaster charts).
The 50/50 on which wing is hit affects the probability that the rafts are hit, but it doesn't change the chance of survival once the rafts are destroyed.

Re: Shredded Rafts
A quick question from a newbie, and I apologise if this is answered elsewhere:
Are rubber raft hits, or rather their modifiers, cumulative?
I've assumed not as -6 seemed pretty harsh as it is.
Thanks,
Keiron

Re: Shredded Rafts
I believe landing modifiers are cumulative. So landing without rafts and without flaps (for example), is worse than just landing without rafts.

Re: Shredded Rafts
Just to confirm:
In a mission I recently completed the rubber rafts were hit 3 times; this would mean my roll on table G-10 would be -6 (3x -2), not -2 (the first hit does the damage while any additional hits have no effect)
Thanks.

Re: Shredded Rafts
No, I'm sorry I wasn't clear. Negative modifiers for the destruction of different systems are cumulative (hence the rafts-and-flaps example). But once something is destroyed, there's no additional penalty for stirring the mess around. The roll on G-10 is -6 because that's the penalty for one hit according to the errata on page 19 (inside back cover) of the original rules. Your next two hits had no effect.
