D-12's 'Australian' Psycho. Message To Andrea.
Thanks for replying so quickly! And thanks for the encouragement too. Hopefully something will happen soon. It's just a lot harder for me because I live in Australia, and without sounding like a real sorry-ass, I feel like I'm missing out on a lot of Em (and not excluding all the other fans over here). It's more difficult to be able to thank him for what he's done for us—he’s been out here so very little and I'd really like him to hop over and do a couple of shows (he only toured once in 2001, and even then, our government was STILL trying to kick him out), so he can be able to have us cheer him on throughout a concert and show him some love.
I know it's hard for him to do so, especially since it's been so stressful on him in the past couple of years. Or ever since he hit the big time to be more accurate. We're all still very thankful that he's continuing on with his music. He's been touring all over the States (which is fair enough), but what I can't understand is why he's always in Europe. If he can keep complaining about how s**tty the food is there and still be able to perform, why can't he come over here, perform, and eat our s**tty food once in a while?! For one thing, he and the rest of D12 said the fishing here was great. But he's already got US hooked. What's the difference between damn Europe and everywhere else in the world?
I don't mean to complain, but Australia is always criticizing Eminem for something or other, and when they're not criticizing him, they're saying that they're, erm, 'interested' in what he's doing. But he doesn't show himself enough over here for our country to really get a good view of him, to spark debates, for people like other fans and myself to get involved in them. I'm not in it for the recognition—I’m just trying to stand up for something I believe in and support (like what you did for GLAAD and defending him against the homophobic accusations), and for other people to realize that there are so many people who feel the same way that he does, who see Em as someone who is important and has made a difference.
There's still a lot of controversy here—the media is relying on everyone else's sources, without hearing it firsthand. Then they listen to the songs, take it out of context, and crap on about how bad it is, and how terrible he is as a whole. That's probably one of the reasons why I'm so eager for Tani's book to come out; by having so many different Eminem fans from around the world commenting on his music, maybe that will help him consider all the places he hasn't really made an appearance in and go visit them. Hopefully mine will be one of them. That way, him being Eminem will be of a lot more importance to everyone over here. 8 Mile and all the publicity for it certainly helped. I'm grateful for that.
I'm sorry, I've just had a crappy day and I need something to b**tch about. I'm just so proud of all his achievements and what he has become, and so thankful that he's still alive to make music and be successful. But it's so hard to figure out what he wants anymore—he’s got more money now than he knows what to do with, and he says that it isn't a concern anymore. But you know, that might have something to do with it. All he wants now is respect and success. He is successful, but before that he established a connection with real fans that have followed him since day one, that will never disentegrate. All this crap that he told Rolling Stone back in 2002 about making catchy songs to get people listen to his real songs I'm not understanding.
His real fans love him for every moment he exists, every piece of music he writes and every award he receives for excellence. The catchy songs will always live as his big hits. These 'real songs' mean nothing to the thousands of nameless and faceless autograph hunters, star- spotters and groupies, the people who chase him around wherever he goes and piss him off. Not to say that they can't be considered too as fans, for whatever they like chasing him over. He's got us listening to not just his catchy songs or real songs, but all of them. It's just that he needs to know that he and what he is doing is appreciated, and most of his fans are here to support him and stand up for him. Sometimes I just wish that he could travel around to find that out for himself.
You know, I realize that he can grasp the fact that he has fans. But we all know it goes a lot deeper than that. I just want us to be able to tell him that his art is doing more than selling; it's making a difference and more than anything it's being respected and appreciated.
