90th Anniversary Battle of Passchendaele 2007

I have not read any feedback or comments about the 90th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele held in Belgium last October.
Our Belgian friends requested copies of unit histories (I personally sent over a copy of two books which I had written, and at no cost to the Belgian archives folk) but have heard NOTHING about the commemorations.

Nothing heard directly by me from them, Dave, but Johan Durnez from Belgium wrote a story for DIGGER magazine, Issue 21 (of which I'm the Editor). He attended the Tyne Cot service as a guest of the Australian government and then went to the burial service for the five Zonnebeke Diggers. Both services were well organised with good crowds. Alas, the museum guys seem to have 'disappeared'. A friend of mine went to a lot of trouble to send over info on one Digger for their proposed exhibition, but has never even received a thank you. Strange ...

Hi guys - I thought this forum must have closed - always pays to check occasionally!

Graeme - it is strange your friend never received a thank you. I sent Jan the story of my G/uncle & some copies of Unit Histories - and was thanked for both.

It was actually a huge thrill to see my G/Uncles photo in the exhibition at the Zonnebeke museum when we were over there in August - also had the pleasure of meeting up with Jan.

With a co-author, they had the following book published:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/s?ie=UTF8&search-type=ss&index=books-uk&field-author=Jan%20Van%20Der%20Fraenen&page=1

Sadly, Jan has since moved on to other work, so this could have something to do with the lack of response.

Cheers, Frev
