Re: 15th Battalion -
Hi Paul,
Sorry for taking so long to reply. I haven't logged in for a while plus I had changed email addresses and did not update my account on this site...So did not recieve notifications of a post to the forum.
Re your Q's
My great uncle was a Qld'er from the township of Bauple, just south of Maryborough. Richard also kindly lent me the group photo which I colour copied. Turned out ok... a scan probably would have been better. I tried to identify my great uncle and think I have narrowed it down to about 2 or 3 men using a portrait photo I have. I was wondering if there might be another copy of the same photo 'out there' somewhere, but with names. Would be good to find.
rgds,
Steve

Re: 15th Battalion -
The soldier figure who stands at the eastern end of the Cenotaph in Sydney's Martin Place was modelled on a member of the 15th Battalion.
He was No 6, William Pigott DARBY, who was a stretcher-bearer, & served at Gallipoli, and in the 1st occupation of the front line trenches at Pozieres, until wounded by Shell-schock, 12 August 1916.
His Irish relations have recently commissioned a replica of the Cenotaph statue; it was caste, from photographic images, by an Irish artist, John COLL, & unveiled in Dublin last month.
Those relations are very keen to get hold of a copy of CHATAWAY's "History of the 15th Battalion, A.I.F., War of 1914-18."
I know copies of this book are very hard to come by, & they may have to make do with a digital copy. But they are definitely in the market to purchase a copy, by whatever means.
Any information as to any copy welcomed by me at cgpigott@bigpond.com for forwarding to Dublin.
Regards,
Chris PIGOTT, Potts Point, N.S.W.

Re: 15th Battalion -
I'm looking for a good clear map to show the route the 4th Brigade took on August 6/7th 1915. If anyone cares to draw me one showing all the prominant features would be very grateful.

Re: 15th Battalion -
Hello All,
During my research into my Great Uncle, Albert Stanley Scott F. Coy 15th Battalion, I discovered a great library resource which I thought I would share. You may already know of it, but if not here it is:
The Qld State Library, and I'm sure most other state libraries, keep microfilm copies of all Australian newspapers and journals dating back to the late 1800's. The "Sydney Mail" weekly newspaper printed pictures of men wounded or killed in action along with stories from some. My great uncle was pictured in the 16th June 1915 edition.
Further, a newspaper publication called the "Queenslander" printed pictures of most Qld AIF servicemen of WW1. I tracked down the F.Coy 15th Bat. in the 26th Dec 1914 edition. Have a look at the prints I was able to make on the following web site.
http://picasaweb.google.com.au/Steve28362/15thBattalion?authkey=IKJGqS2FGvc
I'm happy to help anyone wishing to do similar research in this area. I just wish I had more time to go through all the editions.
regards,
Steven Jeppesen
