Rob,
The book by Blackwell is not an easy book to find these days. I spoke to an Adelaide bookdealer a few weeks ago & he confirmed had handled only 4 copies in 25 years

Re: Battalion Histories

As my interest in AIF history from the service of my father in the 42nd Battalion AIF in the Great War it is not surprising that my first foray into web building was to honour that Battalion.

I am in the process of moving that original site from a "freebie" site (thanks YAHOO!) to a faster, larger server.

The important thing is that the Battalion History, "The Spirit of the Forty Second" has been transferred to the new site and is operational.

See it at

Re: Battalion Histories

Hi Rob -

Disposal of horses in unit histories-
4th LH nothing

6th LH - a few destroyed due to debility etc and the rest handed in with kit etc. When riots commenced in Egypt, horses were reissued for the duration, but not original mounts. No further mention.

7th LH - after Egyptian rebellion, all but 20 horses required for camp duties were handed in. No further mention.

10th LH - much detail on the killing of aged or debilitated horses rather than sell them to the locals and the handing over of fit horses to the British and Indian Armies. Horses were again issued for the duration of the rebellion and then afterwards - "the borrowed horses were returned to their depot, the hastily issued equipment was handed back..."

9th LH - similar to the 10th LH

Regards
Neville

Hi Graeme
The nominal roll on CD is something that I compiled after months of work. Sorry, but it is not for sale.

Leanne,
Some of these Unit Histories are getting harder and harder to find, and EXPENSIVE!! If your Husband can wait a little while until Ted Harris has his new site with Histories online, this may prove the easiest and cheapest option to obtain a copy. Some of these book are available on inter library loan, from Canberra, the only downfall being that you usually have to read them at your local library. Clive at Warbooks.com has a wishlist, were you can list your interest in this book and he will do his best to find you a copy.
