New Gallipoli Book by Jonathan King
Has anyone spotted or bought the latest offering on Gallipoli by Dr Jonathan King?
I am told the book contains diary extracts and letters.
I am interested in knowing if any letters or extracts from Lieut-Colonel Robert Scobie, 2nd Battalion AIF, are included.

Dave, I think it's in our local A & R. Will check the index today if I remember. Extracts are appearing in the Telegraph this week.

DD
I had a quick look at this book today. It sells for $50
Lieut-Colonel Robert Scobie is included in only Chapter 1.
He is one of many contributors/letter writers in the book. Scobie's letter in the book is for the 25th of April 1915.
I think thats all.
I intend to buy this book before Xmas. I will copy & send you the Scobie part if that is all you are after in this particular book.
Cheers
Geoff S

Re: New Gallipoli Book by Jonathan King
G and G:
Thanks for having a look for me.
My interest in the Scobie material is that it may have been taken from work which I have carried out in the last couple of years and of which a copy of everything I had written was given to a family member who in turn had given it to a family member who is an aquaintance of King's.
The person who may have passed the information on to King 'phoned me earlier this year and said that King was interested in writing a book about Scobie, but I had to tell the caller then that the work I have done in the past few years (about Scobie) will be put in my own book due out in 2005 for the 90th anniversary of his death at Lone Pine.
Bryn: are you aware of this new book by Jonathan King. I believe it has a list of all Australians who died at Gallipoli in the appendix.
I shall seek out a copy to check it out.
Thankyou once again.

Re: New Gallipoli Book by Jonathan King
Dave; I hadn't heard anything about it till you began this thread. What's the book called? I'll have to pick up a copy when I'm back in Australia.
I'll be particularly interested in the appendix listing everyone who died at Gallipoli. What will be your recourse if it turns out that the work that's been included on Colonel Scobie was your own?
Geoff; do you know whether the appendix includes those who died later of wounds or illnesses contracted there, or is just at Gallipoli itself? Does it include New Zealanders?
Could you tell me whether it contains any extracts from the diary of Private Cicognani, of the 1st Field Ambulance? I ask because I've been transcribing this diary, but if it's already been done....
Regards,
Bryn

Re: New Gallipoli Book by Jonathan King
Bryn,
I only had a very quick look. The book itself is sold in sealed plastic wrap. I had to get Dymocks in the City to open a copy for me.
But, I think it only lists Australians killed at Gallipoli,
I will heve a look for your bloke next week in the book if you want.
Cheers
Geoff S
I have seen a nice copy of Purple Patches with DW for sale for $250- let me know ASAP if you want it & I will send you the dealers details.
Go the Wallabies!

Re: New Gallipoli Book by Jonathan King
Hi Geoff,
I'd be interested in the 'Purple Patches' if it's still available. Somehow I missed your reply until now!
I'm off into Tokyo - Shinjuku to be precise - to a British pub to watch the Wallabies / England World Cup Final. It's about an hour and a half from my train station, and we're two hours behind Sydney time here, so I want to get in early and grab a seat.

Re: New Gallipoli Book by Jonathan King
Have just posted "Go the Wallabies- can England win?" under Chit Chat on the UK site- that should stir em up!
I was a 'non-believer' until last week-end against the All Blacks- I will not be making that mistake tonight!
