Re: Four Anzacs at War
Hi Paddy, now sadly all sold, so your best bet is second hand bookshops or eBay. The shop in Wagga (you would know it, they sell second hand military books) may be worth contacting. Title is 'Four Australians at War: Letters to Argyle 1914-1919' by M Campbell & G Hosken (Kangaroo Press 1996).
I saw one at Alexander Fax in Canberra once so they may be able to keep an eye out for you. I will do the same.
Graeme

Re: Four Anzacs at War
Hi Pat
Try www.abebooks.com - they have 2 copies available - one in Vic & one in SA - huge difference in price!
Let me know if it's a good read (can't ask Graeme - he'd be a tad biased! )
Cheers, Frev.

Re: Four Anzacs at War
Biased - nah! It's a GREAT story told through their letters covering the four years of the war, plus many photos. Would make a great script for radio, with different voices for the four men. All men were from the land but could write beautifully. The book was featured on A Current Affair on Remembrance Day 1996.
Frev, have you received DIGGER 12 yet? Let me know if you liked the stories.
Graeme

Graeme,
Quote: It's a GREAT story ......
I knew you'd say that! I guess I may have to try for the copy that Pat doesn't buy.
Yes, D12 has arrived. I have it on top of my HUGE PILE of 'to read' - I did actually read 'Remembering Harry' today - and have to say the line "At each visit, they ensure they also have flowers for the lonely Australian buried so far from home." certainly hit a nerve. What a great couple the Simonin's are.
Hope all goes well in Canberra this weekend.
Cheers, Frev

Re: Four Anzacs at War
Back from Canberra, tired but enthused for another year of committee work! The Behind the Scenes art tour was excellent, and we saw some amazing posters, paintings, etchings and water colours that are usually hidden away in careful storage. Quite a few Will Dyson's and George Lamberts. Rae Frances's (UNSW)talk on Women in the Great War was excellent and supported by many wonderful photographs, most of which we had not seen before. Then we saw three films from WWI. Screensound has some wonderful footage from the Home Front. The AGM went smoothly and we now have a full committee for the FFFAIF for the first time. The tour of Tuggeranong homestead where Bean wrote the first three volumes was very worthwhile. All in all a great weekend and the company was awesome, as you can imagine when you get WWI enthusaists together. See you at the next one!

Re: Four Anzacs at War
G'day Graeme.
Thanks for the response. Inexplicably I missed seeing it first time round. The book has special significance as the Rutherglen rellie I am interested in was also killed at 3rd Wipers.
You will not be waiting with baited breath for an evaluation, which can only be tended after I have read the book, but from what I have absorbed so far "Goodonyer & Thanks".
Pat
