18th Battalion

Thought I would drop a line on this forum, and register my ongoing nightmare of writing a unit history into this unit, which to date has had no other book written, excepting of course Maxwells personal accounts.

If anyone has info they would like to include, please drop me a line at mickryan@bigpond.com

Going through the boards here, looks like I am in rather illustrious company, quite humbling really.

I have a few offbeat topics planned in the book, as I have been given some lovely info already, such as known members of the Fire Brigade, both before and after. Always interesting to see a mans full life, and not just his 3-4 year military career.

The planned format shall be A4 sized hardcover, with as many photos as I can jam in.

Look forward to hearing anything at all.

Mick

Re: 18th Battalion

Hi Mick, congratulations on your decision to write a history of the 18th. You may like to communicate with Ross St Claire, who has just finished the 54th History. Trevor Munro and I have a few of the 18th in 'Wellington's finest', but it was not a battalion that many Central West NSW men ended up in as compared to the 1st and 14th Brigade battalions. I could mention your request for info in the next issue of DIGGER if you can send your contact details to me at ghoskenaif AT bigpond dot com.
