Sapper Benjamin James Brinkhurst
Just Found this site while researching my family history. He is my mother's father.
Having got his service record from the Australian archive site and finding more information from the War Memorial site I now know if he boarded ship to go to France on 17/01/17 aboard RMS Omrah from Melbourne. He was a reinforcement for the tunneling companies. Any pointers as to where I would find information on his war service would be very welcome. Thanks in advance

Re: Sapper Benjamin James Brinkhurst
John, Oliver Holmes woodward wrote 'Notes on the work of an Australian Tunnelling company in France' in 1920 (53 pages). I would think it would be hard to find, esp from the UK. I think someone is working on a book on the Tunnellers now, or has finsihed one recently. Try the bookshop at the AWM (www.awm.gov.au) or search Alexander Fax's website in Canberra (do a google and you will find their address).

Re: Sapper Benjamin James Brinkhurst
Thanks for the reply. I started this to try and find the truth behind a family mystery. The story goes that my grandfather went to Australia following his brother who had stolen the family silver! He then joined the AIF, was posted to France then return to England when he was demobbed. As an interesting aside there is only one Brinkhurst listed in the Aus White Pages. Suspect we may be related.
