Bag with A.I.F. insignia
I was wondering if someone could give me some information regarding an old bag I have that has the A.I.F. insignia on it. Under the A.I.F. insignia is a number (1913) I was wondering if this dictated a soldiers field number. Also (I.18.) is stamped in with a picture of the crown with (Int.3) If 1913 dictates a soldiers number than I've located a bag that belonged to Nathan Reeve who was part of the 14th Field Artillery Brigade in 1916. Any help with these insignias would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Re: Bag with A.I.F. insignia
Be careful making assumptions with WWI numbers,,, they were regimental or Battalion numbers not AIF numbers that were used in WWII. THe same number could have been used in every unit in the AIF for a different man.

Re: Bag with A.I.F. insignia
The same number could also be recycled for different men within the same battalion. Many more people passed through a battalion in the war than numbers used.

http://www.diggerhistory.info/pages-help/faq2.htm#numbers
will give you a clear idea of how the numbering system worked in WW1.

will allow you to compare what you have with the standard issue.
