OUT OF THIS WORLD (artful awards)

this world, being planet earth

Artful has earned a reputation for word-of-mouth-and-net recommendations. E&A&R New Year Tips from participants of
http://www.artfulfestival.co.uk
(cheers for the tip-offs/networking)
Image

BLEECH
A good friend said there would be instant love. Correct. Within chords of ROCKING.
http://www.myspace.com/slumminangels

THE BRUTE CHORUS
A "really thrilling" (Steve Lamacq) mix of great inspirations create a fresh, accessible dirty guitar blessed excitement that Secret Garden Party revellers fell hard for. "psyched-out garage-folk of scuzzy blues licks and a mixed bag of accompanying instruments and a scatology of Biblical stories, nursery rhymes and fairy tales" (Artrocker)
http://www.myspace.com/thebrutechorus
9th Oct Dead Planet Records @ Amersham Arms SE14
http://www.myspace.com/deadplanetrecords
& @ this year's IN THE CITY

CHEW LiPS
Stardusted electronic pop disco beat angel voiced in your face and raw. Addictive total contradiction. Born a few months ago (a kitchen in New Cross, then Clash Magazine Party!) and attracting increasing interest. Having caught them at the Dead Planet Records Party they were destined for Artful within a few beats ... Sometimes a band come along with the chemistry of SPECIAL infused in their veins.
http://www.myspace.com/chewlips
On screen : Loose Belt Productions (filmed Midsummer Dream all dayer at New Cross Inn being screened at Rocklands Artful Night on 18 October)
http://www.myspace.com/loosebeltproductions

COP ON THE EDGE.
Mainstream media-mediochre inflicting narcolepsy on you? Switch to Cop On The Edge FM via their myspace. When MTB gets to make their Costa del Thames holiday brochure film these have to be on the soundtrack. Pop for the modern world to end to.
http://www.myspace.com/copontheedgemusic

THE COOLNESS
join the Artful Party playing the launch of One Foot Cow on 1st October at New Cross Inn
http://www.myspace.com/tenderlovingcoolness

DEXY
Literally born at Artful when he dared to get up on stage and sing some songs... to a wow of a response. Dexy has written some of the most instantly hooky tunes which he delivers, live, with charisma. He has since won a small but loyal following, had thumbs up from Elliot Smith's band, Decemberists, Spinto Band, played shows with Mark Morrisss of The Bluetones and found himself on the same festival bills as Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen. You could say he's off to a strong start! "Joyous...should see him rise to ascendancy" (Drowned In Sound), "Finally: a British singer-songwriter you don’t need to be ashamed about" Sprawled Magazine.
http://www.myspace.com/dexyspace

EXCENTRAL TEMPEST

Absolutely on it dub poet wordsmith and THE woman with attitude, of our times. A favourite in the South East X locality of London town.
http://www.myspace.com/excentraltempest

FACTORY FLOOR Genuine industrial art beat music. Has to be seen.
http://www.myspace.com/factoryfloor

FIGHT LIKE APES another band that we have put on and just love and, erm, that's that really. DO tip them heavily tho, mind...

GAOLERS DAUGHTER
Ha ha, love the way that they are up for playing two gigs in one night, enthusiasm is definitely a star quality, but they gotta have the songs, and it was the myspace that swung it http:/www.myspace.com/gaolersdaughter
On stage : 11 October (special early two-gig-night. This is Chapter One) - Free Entry

THE HANC OCKS
A very British sounding popular music combo who pull off the far from simple feat of sounding like a classic band in the making, but also sounding not-so-innocently young. Download the demos for free at
http://www.myspace.com/ the hanco cksuk
sorry but this stooopid forum wont let me say
C O C K S! F U C K! S H I T! P I S S! or any other every day english that may accidentally pop up in a name. I'm gonna complain to Fuckingham Palace about this !
On stage : 11 Oxtober at The Marlborough SE5

KASMS

Recently hihtting the Independent Top 20 with the single Taxidermy is just part of a full on year for Kasms. Distinguishable vocals and what Drowned In Sound noted as "droning, feedback-laden guitars, pulsing beats and a messy yet tight aesthetic" are finding an audience for their "Shreikbeat".
http://www.myspace.com/kasms
On stage : Brixton Windmill on October 1st Spoon Of Music (Lee Artrocker and friends stage the best buzz bands, monthly) .
http://www.myspace.com/spoonofmusic
On screen : Roman Rappak's film making celebrated 18 October, Rocklands @ New Cross Inn. Other film makers in bands are The Reunionists, playing live that night. Roman's video for 'Taxidermy '
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xOWV05d_yhY

KIDS LOVE LIES oh we just love them and they're up for joining in with Artful, so watch this space - also appear on the MidSummer Dream film by Loose Belt made at New Cross Inn this solstice
http://www.myspace.com/kidslovelies

LITTLE TROPHY

Those blooming intergalactic space travellers. They come to our Planet and nick all our tunes.... From what can be make out, a bunch of space cadets that fell to Earth (Brighton to be precise, none of that namby pamby american desert cliche...). Little Trophy sound like outer space having a fit at a punky disco held in a loony bin. There is no fence to sit on... They've gone on a star trek. Will be back.
http://www.myspace.com/littletrophy

LORD AUCH

Since their debut single for the Young and Lost Club label in Spring, singer Simon McCabe, and drummer Danny Prescott (both formerly of the fab Black Wire who graced the first Artful, riotously) and guitarist Liam W their massive spectrum of influences have taken them from strength to strength including the sellout Y&L Club tour with Noah and the Whale. At this years IN THE CITY
http://www.myspace.com/lordauchuk

MATHS CLASS

Crumbs. Seriously in increasing demand aural-artnik genius that recently blew the sky from Offset before starring at Music Tourist Board's mid Artful Saturday night party. Maths Class are sharp-angled frenetic sound “the sort that cause impromptu nosebleeds” (NME) graced Underage Festival, Bestival, shows with Foals/Battles...
On Stage 18th October : Rocklands @ New Cross Inn
http://www.myspace.com/mathsclass
and at this year's IN THE CITY
Image

MESSENGERS

So anyway, the DJ was just turning down the volume before their set when shrieks of excitement at decibels heralded the arrival of Messengers - electrofury punktastica tinged with glam and infused with dynamite. Industry interest zoomed in so early that the band zoned out and concentrated on increasing their armoury of tunes and ideas. They return to the scene of the fantastic crime (New Cross Inn), on Saturday 18 October.

MILK PLUS
If only more bands weren't afraid to ROCK AND ROLL. The 21st century is too much about nanny approved hair cuts and clothes above mighty tunes and riffs. This is classic cool cat blues tinted newer wave marvellousness.
On stage : 15 Oct @ Punk (Panda Power fund raiser for Amnesty International).

MY PASSION
Day-glo glam punk rioters that are one of the biggest kept secrets - but not for long. It's not just the youthful appeal of their energy fizz bomb live explosionz. With half a million downloads, over 60,000 release sales, and the success of My Passion Fashion they are the serious contenders and new choice of the masses.

The acclaimed album by CERI JAMES will be performed by him and look out for some more special guests.

Re: OUT OF THIS WORLD (artful awards)

Kids Love Lies (Nov) So this week our song 'Under the Bed' was chosen as Track of the Day on the Times Online website:
"Under The Bed kicks off with an energetic riff that races into a cacophony of relentless, frenetic guitars and crashing percussion. So far, so exciting. Meanwhile, vocalist Ellen Murphy dramatically sings over it all with a mix of riot grrrl attitude and a laid-back confidence that pulls the whole thing together. The result is that the explosion of energy on display is tight, impressive and professional"
