The first Artful (October '005) established the South East Bank as London's alternative creative core. Mixing live music with spoken word, art, dance, comedy and even theatre, it creates as it entertains courtesy of the number of up and coming music writers, photographers and film makers that are part of the event. By the second year, it was clear from anticipation, that this would grow into an annual event.

The events are staged by a family of the London's promoters that book on the future-star underground circuit, through co-promotion. The bands get involved in the creative process, their friends help with art and DJing. Despite starting out as a penniless daydream, standards are high quality.

Some of the participating artistes already have media profile, others are completely new, what they have in common is that they are highly recommended by audiences and peers alike. Genuine word of mouth and net acclaim at street level.

Artful is basically about a belief in the power of arts over arms, and a passion for music that believes it can do anything. The positivity of creativity through the unity of the community. Having established Rocklands as a real/surreal part of the city, the vibe of New Cross Road as what NME calls "The CBGBs of SE14", and with more bands calling in, year n year, the potential for what Artful will become, has no limit other than imagination.

The feedback from the favourite live experiences so far this year are shaping this year's Artful, set to be the best yet, on many levels. A high percentage of the participants of the first two Artful events are in the ascendency. With a bill recommended by regular gig goers to scouting promoters in the coolest clubs, this year will again be worthy of serious attention.
