20 OCT : ROCKLANDS PARTY @ Artful
All Day / All Night
SPECTACLE!
All Ages show plus pre-party events at New Cross Inn & Deptford Arms then all night After Show Bash Extraordinaire.
starring
MAMA SHAMONE
Take this for a lead singer. Take a good visual slurp of her provocative body and brace yourself – you’re about to get hit with the sharpest tongue to come out of Brixton since Lynton Kwesi Johnson. Mama Shamone are without doubt the most exciting live band in London right now. Glimpse them in a photo and their good looks will intrigue you. Catch a track or two and their danceable rock tunes will get you moving. But it’s live that this band really blow you away.
Guitarist Flip X and bassist Ru have broken instruments, been electrocuted and knocked out without missing a beat. But all eyes ultimately train on lead singer Mama as she climbs walls, commits acts of gratuitous violence and gets the whole audience dancing and singing along in every single show. If you’re looking for magazine
looks and cooler than f__k songs then Mama Shamone ticks that box without even trying – but you just wouldn’t be doing the band justice.
This is a band that makes real songs. Sex, obsession, depravity, b i t c h iness and coprophilia. You’ll find them all in Mama Shamone set to irresistibly catchy tunes. You see, Mama Shamone loves the rock. But they also love hip-hop and electronic grooves and this makes them appeal to gay clubbers, headbangers and pop tarts alike. Add to that radio play and gigs in some of the filthiest clubs in Berlin and we would be talking quite a product, if only Mama would let you see her that way. She’ll shove the mic down your throat while you beg for one more song.
Mama Shamone host a club in London with Shoreditch’s baddest bass driven DJ Hannah Holland (Trailer Trash) and Mc Chickaboo, UK’s number one female MC. It’s the party you always suspected was better than the one you were at has a name: Bastard Batty Bass. On a school night you may find babies flying across the room, cheap drinks and cheaper style and freaks of all colours bouncing off the walls to the fierce booty bass electro of Hannah Holland and the live action of Mama Shamone, MC Chickaboo (Soul II Soul) and a bevy of frenzied guests. It’s a regular gymkhana.

Re: 20 OCT : ROCKLANDS PARTY @ Artful
starring
IMPERIAL LEISURE
"People of the UK, your champions have arrived." (mysongbird.com)
"Amazing live band." (Drowned in Sound)
"...all you can do is pity the fools that came in late." (London Metro)
Imperial Leisure are a phenomenon: a ten-piece fusion of hip-hop, ska and rock with a live brass section, keyboards, DJ, two MCs and a singer, who have been mates since school. They work and party together, and put equal energy into both things. This energy is what sets the band apart on stage: electric performances around the country have seen them compared to "The Beasties and De La Soul, playing Less Than Jake at a cult-rock party"
Imperial Leisure spent 2006 commandeering and converting crowds across the country. They (legitimately) played festivals such as The Secret Garden Party and TDK, not to mention (illegitimately playing in the car parks at) Reading, En-Dorset, Fruitstock and LoveBox, as well as springing spontaneous gigs on unsuspecting but hugely appreciative crowds in shopping centres, parks, and on beaches around the UK then supporting US hip-hoppers, Ugly Duckling on tour.
2007 has already included slots with Gym Class Heroes, Sugar Hill Gang, The Beat, Sway, Skinnyman and a reunion with Ugly Duckling as well as festivals including Secret Garden Party, Exeter Respect, Bristol Cider Festival, Blissfields and The Brick Lane Festival. With three self released EPs out over the course of the last year, Imperial Leisure have recently been irecording new material with producer Junk Scientist (Larrikin Love, The Rakes).
Imperial Leisure are Artful Dodgers of the highest order, and join this year's non conventional convention of entertainment and exhibition, playing the All Ages Show at Rocklands Party 2.
