YEAR 004 : MUSIC TOURIST BOARD

Year 004

Spring:

13 Artists (massive music business, booking agents for some of the biggest bands) kindly offer the first Music Tourist Board office space in Greenwich, having read and believed the motto: Practise Random Kindness and Senseless acts of Beauty”. How magic is that?

Summer :

Media have a "New Cross Scene" through Summer. Harry Potter tells NME he’s a fan, the Evening Standard publish “how to speak New Cross”. The people waiting for buses by the Paradise Bar still don’t get any shelters.

Autumn :

The short film and band profiles "Rocklands, live in New Cross" (from the Oct 004 events) by Digital Sneakers document the seeds of the 21st century’s first street level rock’n’roll movement.

Rocklands special by John Kennedy on Xfm Radio previews the Digital Sneakers films, and makes the area a "reality", London has a new locality. The Rakes kick off the Rocklands Rounded tour (Pop Of The Tops bands outside of London do gig swap sets) - on the road photographer, Pete Hill later becomes Kaiser Chiefs etc official snapper.

Winter

Dec : Pop Of The Tops is killed off to Stay Beautiful. MTB still seek self marketing, highly entertaining talent for it's live events. A good percentage of these Alternative Idols continue to progress, to this day... the vibe will always be Pop Of The Tops (i.e. a quality bill that would liven up but not be out of place on Top Of The Pops)
