YEAR 005 : MUSIC TOURIST BOARD

Year 005

Paradise Bar becomes Six String Bar. The number Six is part of MTB inspiration. (i.e. The Prisoner, the iconic rock album Six by Mansun, etc) MTB now also promoting at Camden Barfly and Manchester Dry Bar this year.

The Paradise Bar / Six String Bar closes on 6/6. The Crowd become Hatcham Social that day. Their first show is the last live performance at this address on the infamous lighty up stage.

Music Tourist Board live shenanigans move. P.O.L.E. Club begins at The Walpole on New Cross Road. There is no stage. But, hey...

Gateside Urban Music Festival is a highlight of August.

With thanks to Creative Lewisham Agency, RSVP.co.uk, NDC, Hall Or Nothing, Courtyard, Parlophone, 24 Records, a load of venues and everybody that gave support by coming out to play, the Playing Class Friends of Planet Water create Artful, launched by staging the punkiest, DIY event (including early tips for My Passion, Plugs, Hey Gravity!...) .

The Non Conventional Convention of Entertainment and Exhibition. Includes films from Digital Sneakers, Patrick Jones (brother of Nicky Wire of Manic Street Preachers) and more with exclusive permissions fromTracey Emin, Radiohead screening premiere of ‘Follow Me Around’ film, and the first showing of Julien Temple's two Sex Pistols films together and a legendary Q+A from the man himself, to end off.

The Blue Light District launch properly (seminal bands, William, Popular Workshop, Nebraska play live). BLD is at the core of Artful events, since. Art and live music galore, plus a five-storey Artful party at New Cross Venue. It's something else - there are no limits to the ambitions of imagination.

After the first Earwax Broadcast from Artful wins international subscribers checking out the newer wave from around the globe, P.O.L.E. moves to New Cross Inn and kicks off the return of live music events at the venue.

Rain + failed bicycle brakes + Cider = loss of left arm’s use for six months. Also, at one point this year, was down to having 7p. Lost a penny of it and reached rock bottom. Happily never gave up because of belief in the number 6.

Year 006

City Showcase comes to South East London. Music Tourist Board are invited to do the event management and promotion. Stages the event in conjunction with Lewisham’s Creative Hub at Goldsmiths.

First outdoor event: Rocklands Bandstand at People's Day Festival in July. - a chance for local favourite musicians to play outdoors at South London's biggest community event. The fabulous day out mixes genres from the dance party of Street Vibes, rock steady of The Darling Reds and mega rock of Chet, to the blue grass of Indigo Moss. Fantastic response.

Artful No.2 launches with new club, North P.O.L.E. at The Good Ship (Pop Levi/Seeing Scarlet pack the place). Massive thanks to Barrie at Goldsmiths who includes Artful at their Freshers Fayre to give new students a month of entertainment pack. The Compilation: Once Upon Another Time is also created featuring seminal stage bands, and an exclusive from Nicky Wire of Manic Street Preachers. It has since told the very real tale of Planet Water chaos magic.

Artful No.2 ends with the X Party, a live rock installation at Deptford X (annual contemporary art festival). X Party is the relaunch of New Cross Inn in Rocklands (art gallery music bar), under the management of artists Kate Wolfenden & Tristan Scutt), and the launch of 13:53 Magazine (art, graphics, photography) collective.

Massive thanks to New Cross Inn, Music Tourist Board now has a HQ.

Dec 006 : launched Pronto, occasional live music events with new photographers documenting, at Monto Water Rats. Music Tourist Board realises that having a number of allies in North and Central London is essential to helping South London talent.
