Year 007 : MUSIC TOURIST BOARD
Year 007
New Year : Time Out attended the X Party and are inspired to write a cover-flash article on "How the riotous Rocklands scene captured SE8" - welcome to the new 60s San Francisco vibe... The capital’s largest publication are instrumental in the amount of coolest new bands, international adventurers calling into the area.
Feb 007 : New Cross Inn gathered the local community and gave them all free pancakes, ends up with 30+ in house promoters joining the venues “family”.
From St Davids Day 007
Trying to be "proper"
All these fab talents, services, events and venues
that make Music Tourist Board a reality
Where can you take it?
MTB unites with it's HQ's, New Cross Inn and Deptford Arms (taken over by Kate & Tristan to become the sister venue) to become NXP. The Naughty X People throw parties on the Rocklands vibe as well as offering Creative Artist Development Services, event management and promotions.
May 007 : Stage the amazing “concrete Glastonbury” of Rocklands Party - 24 hours with 100+ bands, thousands of people. Peace breaks out in the borough of Lewishambles as it is also the weekend of the more than popular Foxfest. Promoters, Two Bob, are part of the Music Tourist Board recommendations.

Nicola Pritchard also filmed X Party for BBC Community Channel. it was screened as part of the Deptford Lives short films on digital TV channels in Summer 007, to coincide with the BBC 1 documentary on a version of Deptford life, The Tower.
Rocklands Bandstand No.2 at People's Day Festival is an even giddier mix of well spotted tips, created by democracy. i.e. the most entertaining sets as chosen by the venues on the regular gig circuit to choose their favourites for the bill. There are photographers galore, too.
Also begin occasional live MTB events at ULU and The Metro. Every now and then, the buzziest self-marketing talent are hand picked for industry exposure.
Deptford Town Hall Pirates inspire the unity of the locality, paying homage to The Battle of Lewisham with a gathering on Clifton Rise in September.
Artful No.3 celebrates Music Tourist Board in October and a website has been born http://www.artfulfestival.com - courtesy of Simon at The Blue Light District.

Aim of Artful No.3 : The establishment of alternative holiday destination; Costa del Thames - affordable, leisure drenched, green spaced, real London with a wealth of nightlife, international dining, history, architecture and unique retail. In short, we want to help local people, inspire schools, support the creative industries and local businesses and report something different than South London negativity as that is self-fulfilling.
From some of the artists that inspire Rocklands in Time Out Magazine:
“The big word of south-east London is “involvement... ...it’s not about competition, it’s about community”. (Lewis Dyer, The Rank Deluxe).
“It’s very much an anti-scene. It’s about not creating borders or boundaries and finding space for all sorts of expression” (Charlie Beall, Seeing Scarlet).
“I think this area attracts people who are culturally enthusiastic”
(Terry Butchery, Sharing Sheaths).
“It brings people together in a really productive way” (Shay, The Veez).
“The difference from other similarly creative neighbourhoods such as, say, Shoreditch, is the spirit in which everyone has entered into their work. It’s as inclusive as you can get” (Time Out Magazine).
Aim of Artful No.1 (Planet Water Year 005) was to establish the “South East Bank”. Achieved.
Aim of Artful No.2 (Planet Water Year 006) was to start further uniting the many collectives, cultures, venues, talents and ideas of this area, towards a better future for every day people. United we are stronger. Achieved.
All previous Artful Festival aims have started off well and continuing to progress. With affordable accommodation in venues like New Cross Inn, The Birds Nest and St Christopher’s Inn, upwards, the idea of locals and visitors to London alike, bringing more business to the area by making it somewhere to visit is not that crazy. Especially as Greenwich already has tourism. The Borough of Lewisham offers Alternative Tourism.
ARTFUL
“Out-of-the-ordinary festival on London’s South East Bank, with cabaret, music, film and more” (Independent On Sunday).
“A real D.I.Y. aesthetic, an open minded, open armed love-in, where the welcome mat is open to everything and anyone!... ...it’s going to be hot, hot, hot” (Artrocker Magazine).
“The cream of up-and-coming talent” (Daily Telegraph)
“The most extraordinary Moulin Rouge styled arts festival”
(I Like Music.com)
“More DIY than B&Q” (NME)
Organisers = NXP & Music Tourist Board.

Artful No.3 is most art drenched yet. During the (riotous) New Cross Inn / 13:53 birthday party, major galleries begin their shopping spree from the venue walls... Artists like Chris Getliffe and Matt Sargent become even more collectable. Artful has also started to inspire a new way of creating festivals - being an art exhibition with live entertainment - and is now a fixture of the “South East Bank” that Artful No.1 created.
Dec 007
All Ages Events at New Cross Inn (i.e. regulars, Party Shank, Pepys, Ratty Rat, etc ) End at this location due to popularity/capacity and are moved to the larger Albany Theatre, down the road, reborn as RAR! in one of London’s most amazing spaces.
The year ends and Music Tourist Board had been an accidental marketing research project - Worth going on with?
