BANDS FOR BURMA
Gigs, gigs and more gigs! Bands for Burma aims to raise money for the Burmese cyclone victims by putting on as many shows as we can around the UK. These can be of any musical style, size and on any date.
Here at Maps HQ we've done some thinking; we couldn't stand by and just watch the traumatic images and reports coming out of Burma in light of the devastating cyclone and tidal wave that has killed tens of thousands of people, destroying even more lives; we felt compelled to do what we could to help the aid effort, so we've come up with Bands for Burma!
Here's where you come in.
However, there is a limit to what the editors of a moderately sized independent music webzine can do, which is where you can help. We're looking for bands, venues, promoters, labels, media outlets, press companies, music fans and anyone else who can help in any way to raise as much cash as possible for those in need.
Bands for Burma will be a series of gigs to raise money for food, water, medical treatment, clothing and whatever is needed to help people survive in the aftermath of this catastrophic disaster. Whilst the Burmese government have inexplicably and unforgivably placed heavy restrictions on aid agencies working in the country, help is now beginning to reach those in need, but there is a massive amount still to be done to save and rebuild the lives of the millions of people who have lost everything as a result of this catastrophe. We ourselves are not a charity, and as The Red Cross are one of the pitifully few aid agencies getting to where they are needed in Burma we have decided that we will donate all funds raised to their Burmese cyclone campaign.
The plan is thus: Put on gigs around the UK. These can be of any musical style, size and on any date (though of course, the sooner we can get the money sent to the Red Cross, the better).
TWO simple rules:
1. No-one is making any money from the Bands for Burma shows. That means promoters, venues & bands putting on shows either at cost price, or even better, for free.
2. All profits from the Bands for Burma shows must be donated to the Red Cross' Burma Campaign.
What we need:
1. Promoters who are willing to organise shows.
2. Venues who are willing to host shows either for free or at cost price.
3. Bands willing to play shows either for free or at cost price.
4. Press agents and media outlets willing to plug the events.
If you can help get in touch ASAP, we need to get this show on the road!
