Artful Self Defines - 03 : Another Time. Another Planet
The first ARTFUL
was an experiment that ended up being accidentally successful.
Could it be repeated and stay fresh? Only if it remained unpredictable. Well, that it is. Independent of media coverage, sponsorship or even marketable cool, it's retained it's positivity and brain storming aspects.
There's no doubt that it requires much on the organisation side, but Music Tourist Board is a not-for-profit DISorganisation that is willing to learn.
This year has shown that Artful has great potential. Firstly because of the extra music at festivals like People's Day (Chet, The Fairies, Indigo Moss and more outdoors for free!) and the Alternative Art Fair during Made In Deptford (where you could see great bands like Plugs, Team B, The Violets and Klaxons on one bill for a quid!) but also the increased meeting of the Art and Music communities of the South East Bank.
Besides. Yet again, the most important thing is the exciting live music, the vibrant visual art, the imaginative initiatives and above all, the good natured community spirit and co-promotion which seems even more in evidence now people are starting to get what its about.
It's all over again at Halloween. Will it happen again? As ever, as long as people are into it.
Special thanks to the performers, audience, artists, photographers, promoters and venues. To Creative Lewisham Agency, Barrie at Goldsmiths Student Union, Raw-Nerve Design, Jane Deane of P.O.L.E., Lenny Love of Dirty Sounds, Jack Hiett at NDC/Fusion and The Whirled Cup Contenders.
And this is being written on Sunday 22nd October. There's a new moon tonight. Here's to a fantastic last week of a month long party.
