SLAVERY & ABOLITION
There is still slavery everwhere, to this day.
But at least Abolition is a ray of hope for the future...
Anyway,
Passed on, by a friend, original text source unknown
Deptford Town Hall
Slavery
Many ships involved in the slave trade and the British Empire were built at Deptford.
John Hawkins had a Deptford residence when he became Treasurer of the Navy, and was a pioneer in developing the slave trade. In 1567, Francis Drake sailed with Hawkins on a voyage that saw 500 West Africans captured as slaves and transported to the Caribbean after their villages had been burnt and plundered. Drake was later Knighted at Deptford by Elizabeth 1.
In 1652, Cromwell had been a regular visitor to Deptford to oversee the building of two ships The James and The Diamond. These ships formed part of the fleet sent in 1654 Cromwell to capture Jamaica from the Spanish, where sugar plantations were established worked by African slaves. After the restoration, Deptford royalist John Evelyn was appointed to the Kings' Council for Foreign Plantations. Evelyn's mansion was at Sayes Court.
“arrived at Deptford the 1Oth of December, where we cast anchor just as it was high water. The ship was up about half an hour, when my master ordered the barge to be manned; and all in an instant, without having before given me the least reason to suspect anything of the matter, he forced me into the barge; saying, I was going to leave him, but he would take care I should not... he swore I should not move out of his sight; and if I did he would cut my throat, at the same time taking his hanger. I began, however, to collect myself and, plucking up courage, I told him I was free, and he could not by law serve me so... just as we had got a little below Gravesend, we came alongside of a ship which was going away the next tide for the West Indies; her name was the Charming Salty, Captain James Doran; and my master went on board and agreed with him for me; and in a little time I was sent for into the cabin. When I came there Captain Doran asked me if I knew him; I answered that I did not; Then, said he, 'you are now my slave'.”
1772: "a Captain at Deptford beat his Negro boy in so cruel a manner that he died".

Re: SLAVERY & ABOLITION
Abolition. Big in 2007.
Debt is the new slavery but it's brought people together in collaboration - yeah, the arts are good for human spirit. Life on Planet Water. Like the inspiring every day people of Cuba.
The Salt & Pepper of The Earth are everywhere. When we are at ease, we are not unstable.
Slavery to debt and fear is sending us over the edge.
Imagine being your own greatest predators at this stage in evolution, after having evolved to conscience, courtesy and rapid development by stimulation in the 20th century.
Yes, dear corporate aliens, as advertisements spoken in initials (because our minds are already frying as we're flying on the technobabble we ingest) point out. Technology is advancing rapidly. Hey guess who's using it...
Division is so last century. Unique. Get over it. Planet. Get on with it.
Back to our part in Nature's Chain of Life and Death and Life...
Back to being the guardian offspring of the Jewel of Nature's Universe, the living, creating planet, Eden Paradise. We are branded with Nature's trademark, the circle, and with this world's symbols of life (being rounded, containing water). We now to eat at least five of such fresh foods a day for health now.
Not all Water beings have lost The Force.
But there are a city of people in the sky right now. Who looks down and sees Heaven? Sometimes you can see Hell when you land.
We can't be a virus to the world that created us. As it's living epitome with volcanic shaped spots, rain drop tears, mountain coloured hair with wisdom, protective skins and hair that match the soils and sands (but only one colour flesh, if anybody knows a race other than humans...), moods like weather and also being mainly water, we are aware of anti-bodies.
Ironically, we are the anti-bodies. Quite literally.
We are the starving, over eating, over murdering, over diseased, paranoid, obsessed, suicidal, stressed, fearful, glutoons, perverts, bigots, aggressive, uncaring, mis-informed, apathetic, envious, fearful, thoughtless crazies that we hear about on the news.
Nature's way is balance. With increased evil comes increased reason. With repulsive financial greed, philanthropy. At a time when we should be at our most desparing, there is hope and still wishes for peaceful revolution and to reclaim this beautiful world. The land belongs to nobody, it's fruits to everybody. Although it's too late for that to be any more than just plain truth, it's worth bearing in mind. Common law has more common sense and common decency. If the law is an ass, then money is it's hole.
Evolution. Most every day people wanna get on these days. The simple life. Mass cyber space travelling by some of the global community is another dimension to Earth that is invisible without a renewable power source. On the other side of that dimension is Planet Water. Evolution to friendliness. As in the worlds of music, arts, charity, sporting sport, creativity and community spirit.
200 years since abolition and the poor of our riverside settlement have freed themselves from the Celebrity & Pound Signs roundabout. Real Is The New Cool.
Rocklands is our Havana on the Costa Del Thames. A virtual cove (no representation of the Fun City people on the South East Bank), where the kind of woodland folk that have inspired myth and magic for centuries, still live. It's like a Skintville, surviving with a little charm and a lot of style in this surreal orwellian ****ensian nightmare and sci-fi dream of a 21st century.
Green spaces to escape all that, birds to sing Nature's lullaby as they gossip it's news, being it's seeing eyes. Art and music in abundance. The location of the first Jolly Roger is far from perfect, but relative peace and it's Salt & Pepper Of The Earth every day people are the treasure trove of this virtual cove.
People have made something big happen through working hard, well, creatively and professionally for the love of it. Lots are very poor, but because prices are low and living is almost relatively affordable, they can get by with enough money to afford gaffa tape to keep the puddle water out of their trainers.
People in and with bands get it. Year on year more musicians are coming to the London's South East X where the most venues, zines, photographers, artists, designers, students, fairies, space travelling hitch hikers, familes, pirates, djs, writers etc, and their mates, have grown a family tree of collaboration and community out of a love of music and arts.
Being an anti-scene, there's no six month shelf life, only an inclusive, positive, organic hope that people can keep roofs over their heads and food on the table while making so much happen.
We should be desolate and resigned. World War III continues, the environment is threatened, finance is grand theft of poor people - and it's LEGAL!, and we are constantly being divided so that we can't do anything about all these things, and more, that really matter. We drink and breathe chemicals until lots of our illnesses no longer have names other than bug, virus, "something going round"...
Nature's way is balance. We make fun and love and unity and peace and hugs and dancing and daydreams and giggles. We see stars, we smell flowers, we climb hills for the views and appreciate flavours. we do favours and people do them for us. One Love. Look to the future now, it's only just begun.
Trying to change history is best done by trying to change the future first. At least we know we're trying. It's a good feeling... There is hope. It is human spirit. Free your mind and the rest will follow.
