(1) A bank holiday in August is only logical. It's the weekend of Carnival, of Reading/Leeds festival, of mid-summer, loads more. It would save a load of energy spent skiving cos you're knacked

(2) There is a government move to make it very difficult for musicians to perform live in small venues, or for schools, pubs and charities to raise money for causes through musical events. The new legislation will inhibit the central role music making has in our lives and communities.
If you circulate this to your musician (and non-musician!) friends, all each person has to do is click on the link to the government's petitions website, give your name, email and address - it takes about 30 seconds. And it could make a vital difference to the nurturing of community music making, and enabling young musicians to find their feet in the performing world. Please see the link below.

Is there a petition to bring back democracy? (remember when you voted in your prime minister - I suppose with alll the apathy we got we deseved. In future, at least vote green or something in defiance)...

I thought you'd like to know about this urgent call for action on global warming. I'm one of hundreds of thousands who've signed a petition on climate change at Avaaz.org. In the coming days it's going to be delivered to the G8+5 summit (June 6th-8th in Germany)--to the leaders of the biggest, most polluting countries in the world.
We won a victory in March when over 100,000 people helped make climate change the #1 issue for this summit - but the resistance from vested interests is rising. The summit is days away. Please join me in signing the petition here:
