New Art Riot - an extended family

13:53 Mag : “In South East London there is a massive emerging arts & music scene in & around the areas of Greenwich, Deptford, New X, & Lewisham, which is finally becoming recognised. 13:53 [GMT] was the time the project was conceived, this beautiful publication introduces an eclectic and exciting mix of artists from their expanding collective. Artists’ portfolios range from professionally trained artists to local market stall holders that struggle to fund their work. This is an opportunity for you to be involved through sending in your photography / illustration / design or supporting the project through sponsorship or investment.
http://www.1353magazine.com

2 Bob : Promoters, DJs, Musicians and purveyors not only of the borough of Lewisham’s weekly Thursday night out (free rock’n’roll at The Fox) but also organisers of the packed-to-rafters bi-annual event that is Foxfest - with Kooba Radio, The Blue Light District, Orange & Blue studios...
http://myspace.com/twobobmusic

The Blue Light District : (music, musicians, events, films, visuals, writers, photographers, releases, artist development/marketing, and more. The South East Bank isn’t short of creative collectives. Since launching at the first Artful, BLD has become one of the city’s fasted growing alternative collaborations. Responsible for South East London’s monthly film night events at The Fox in Lewisham and much more (including Young Pornographers Broadcasting Service) - now with offices in Deptford Fun City.

Digital Sneakers : Increasingly in demand film & video makers, created a new part of London with their band profiles “Rocklands - Live In New Cross” (004), MTV2 acclaimed, now regulars at the most cutting edge film festivals, recently on Channel 4 (twice!) and have documented Artful from Day 1. Rocklands 2 is currently in production (sneak previews were held at National Film Theatre and The ICA. Awards and nominations starting to pile up up... and check out naked Danny Dyer in the bath in their short "Free Speech".

Earwax Radio : A home made radio show that broadcasts from the Planet's Time zone... "Rocklands even has its own semi-official podcasting radio station, Earwax, which performs all the rabble-rousing, word-spreading, tune-disseminating duties you’d have wanted from pirate radio once upon a time". (Time Out Magazine). Earwax helps get good new music, and it's creators, heard. Andy and Jamie's broadcast is already the stuff of legend. They champion, interview and session alternative stars. It's an on-line drop in to catch up on what's happening underground before it goes overground. Like a chat down the pub with good tunes. Earwax’s popularity exploded around the world with their Artful Broadcast of October 005 and when Earwax launched their first podcast (Feb-006) it was highly over subscribed and crashed the system! Their fan base helped host station, TGR Sound, win an FM license at the end of last year. TGR then tried to mould their golden egg laying goose into something a little more Alan-Partridge-local-radio-style, so Jamie and Andy quit, on air. Who said the spirit of punk was dead? Earwax has grown since and also now hosts monthly live recording sessions at New Cross Inn.

The serious social justice side of these frolics means that a community of friends, without much money between them, can still create positive and take control of their own lives through the power of music and arts. It's not about geography, as it largely exists on cyberspace. Planet Water is a wavelength...Watch this space.

= Music Tourist Board!

The lunatics have taken over the asylum - we pay for this by direct debt. Dumb flag scum worship celebrity fake humans. New Labour, New Animal Farm run this D ickensian, Orwellian Nightmare. Break on through to the other side... We wage art and fun... Tart rock punk f u c k ups in DIY chic. Poems replace guns. Arts not arms. We are Music Tourist Board. Welcome to the real (surreal) world.

www.artfulfestival.com created by Simon at The Blue Light District. Artful's first proper website. Reports / Reviews / Links / News will be added between now and next artful,

13:53 Magazine No.2. launch party twinned up with the first birthday of the New Cross Inn being revamped in Rocklands. Art Power swelled a crowd in and outside the venue, livelying up the New Cross Road colourfully on a Saturday night. As the new issue is in colour, quite appropriate. Beautiful and highly collectable.
