I AM Auburn
That feeling known as the “Auburn Spirit” or that sense of togetherness known as the “Auburn Family” is the common thread that links those of us that are fortunate enough to have experienced our Auburn moments. Those moments can be as miniscule as a friendly War Eagle shout out from a complete stranger in a faraway land or as significant as walking across the stage and accepting a hard earned diploma from the school that we refer to simply as home. As I embark on the plains (also referred to as “God’s Country” or “The Holy Lands”) that safe, comfortable feeling of arriving home is immediately felt as soon as I turn on 147 from Hwy 280. And as crazy as throwing toilet paper into oak trees after a victory can sound to outsiders - that act of innocent fun shared by everyone from toddlers to seniors at Toomer’s Corner simply celebrates the accomplishments of our brethren. And aside from an occasional ding from a roll of toilet paper gone astray, it’s way safer than rioting and looting that goes on elsewhere. My brother-in-law, who is an avid Georgia Tech fan, was in awe of the “War Eagle” greetings I received from countless people I’d never met all over the park at Walt Disney World one recent Thanksgiving. His comment was “Is that normal, you’re not on campus or at a game?” And I said if you are a member of the AU family it is. If you wear Auburn gear, you expect that gesture from fellow tigers no matter where you are. I love Auburn …I AM Auburn!
