thetford pitches

i've read here on a few occasions that the town council are refusing to allow barnham common to be used for football pitches or at the least turned down an offer for a grant from the FA. Is this right?? If so, then WHY are there pitches marked out up there and containers for goals? Who uses this then or was I just imagining things?? Also i heard a wisper that the team from the farm were given quite a bit of money for sorting a pitch out on the abbey farm school field. i see they dont play there now so if so, do THEY use the pitch up the common??

Abbey United currently play home fixtures at Charles Burrel High. They may move to Barnham Common, if and when, acceptable changing facilities are provided. I understand that the earliest that will happen, if at all, will be mid November.

Briefly; the Town Council have agreed that pitches can be used but for the FA to be involved they required it to be fenced. As it is common land the Council members were against that and even if they had agreed it would have had to been referred to the Dept. of Enviroment at Central Government for approval. The politics of the matter are too involved to detail here but I hope this helps to clarify the position.
