History of the Second Age
The following list is taken from Appendix B of the Lord of the Rings, centenary edition, published by Grafton Publishers in 1993, pages 1120 and 1121:
1: Foundation of Grey HaVENS by the Elves in Lindon
32: The Edain under the lead of Elros, son of Earendil, reach Numenor.
40: Many Dwarves leave their old homes in Ered Luin and move to Moria.
443: Death of Elros Tar Minyatur
500: Sauron begins to stir in Middlearth
548: Birth of Silmarien in Numenor
600:: The first Numenorean ships appear off the coast of Middlearth.
750: Eregion is founded by the Noldor.
~ 1000: Sauron begins to feel threatened by the growing number and power of Numenor. As a consequence he moves eastward and chooses Mordor as his stronghold. There he starts the construction of his prime fortress, Barad Dur.
1075: Tar Ancalime becomes the first Ruling Queen in Numenor.
1200: Sauron seeks to seduce the Nolor in Eregion. Gil-Galad refuses to deal with him, but the smiths are won over and Sauron becomes their teacher.
The Numenoreans begin to build permanent havens in Middlearth.
1500: The Noldor smiths reach the height of their skill and start the forging of the Rings of Power - under the lead of Sauron.
1590: Forging of the Three - Vilya, Nenya and Narya by Celebrimbor and two others (they were never touched by Sauron)
1690: The One Ring is made by Sauron in Orodruin and Celebrimbor sees through him. Sauron retreats to the newly completed Barad Dur.
1693: The war between Sauron and the Elves starts, as a consequence of which the Three are hidden.
1695: Sauron invades Eregion with his forces and Elrond is sent there by Gil - Galad.
1997: Eregion is laid waste, during which Celebrimbor is killed. Elrond manages to escape to Imladris in the North with a remnant of Noldor.
1700: Tar Minastir sends military aid from Numenor to Lindon and with his help Saurons forces are conquered. However, Sauron is not driven out of Eriador until 1701..
< 1800: The Numenoreans start to establish dominions in Middlearth and Sauron extends his power eastwards.
In Numenor the shadow starts to fall.
2251: Tar Atanamir seizes the sceptre in Numenor where rebellion and division starts among the people.
In Middlearth, the Ringwraiths appear for the first time.
2250: In Middlearth, Umbar becomes a true stronghold for Numenor.
2360: The haven of Pelargor becomes central for the loyal Numenorians.
2899: Ar Adunakhor takes the sceptre of Numenor.
3175: Tar Minastirr repents from the ways of his predecessors and Civil War breaks out in Numenor.
2355: Ar Pharazon, the Golden, seizes the sceptre in Numenor.
3261: He lands in Umbar and takes Sauron as a prisoner in 3261. As a conseuence, Ar Pharazon and his followers are corrupted by him.
3310: Ar Pharazon starts building the Great Armament.
3319: Ar Pharazon attempts to assail Valinor and is utterly crushed. As a consequence Numenor is destroyed and sinks under water. Elendil escapes with his sons Isildur and Anarion.
3320: The Realms in Exile are founded - Gondor in the South, and Arnor in the North.The Palantiri are devided among them and Sauron returns to Mordor.
3429: Sauron attacks Gondor and takes Minas Ithil, but Isildur escapes to Elrond in the North. Anarion manages to defend Minas Anor and Osgiliath.
3430: The Last Alliance between Elves and Men is formed.
3431: Gil - Galad and Elendil march with their host to Imladris.
In 3434 the Alliance host crosses the Misty Mountains after which it comes to the Battle of Dagorlad, in which Sauron's army is defeated utterly. The siege of Barad Dur begins.
3440: Anarion is slain.
3441: Elendil and Gil-Galad storm Barad Dur, where they manage to overthrow Sauron, but are both killed during the fight. Isildur takes the One Ring and the West has peace for a long time.
So ends the Second Age.
