Rules for role playing on the Bridge to Middlearth
Every game needs rules, oherwise it will get out of hand and everything ends in chaos or tears for the players. In the worst case the players get fed up with role playing and give up a wonderful and creative hobby that is as addictive as alcohol, cigarettes or other drugs -but its a lot less harmful. As long as you remember there is a real world out there, there is nothing wrong with being a role playing addict
1. Don''t kill or harm any other characters without the consent of your posting partner(s).
2. Don''t move other peoples' characters without there consent. If there is no response from your posting partner, send him or her either e-mail or pn. I have found personal messengers such as AIM, Yahoo or ICQ a very useful tool in role playing, especially when you write stories with people from all over the world.
3. Don''t make your characters super heroes, that are always victorious. They should have weaknesses, can be hurt by opponents - but only if it occurs in fights that you have decided to make part of your story and according to rule 1. Else they should have character weaknesses as every human being, elf or dwarf.
4. Don''t curse or offend other characters in a way that can be taken personal.
5. Write your stories and characters in a way that they might appear in one of his books. That doesn''t mean that your writing has to be as brilliant as HIS - who can claim that anyway ! I just mean that they should be recognizably belong to Middle Earth and not to some other fantasy world or universe. Think of that when you choose names and weapons. I imagine that the weapons available are about those that were available between the 12th and 15th century AD.
Now enjoy and enter the role playing realm Arda!
