Vegetarianism
How many people on here are vegetarians or vegans? I have been a vegetarian for only 3 months but trying to be a vegan I don't miss meat at all. I don't drink milk or eat eggs and of course no animal flesh but cheese I love cheese really I do. Any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated. Maybe recipes, whats the best cheese subsitute or which meatless burgers are best. Anything.

Re: Vegetarianism
Due to some food allergies, i qualify for the semi-vegetarian as a lot of protein substitutes vegetarians use i can't have though red meat is not my freind either. I am always on the lookout for good recipees that are different and healthier.
Recently, I picked up a book from the local pagan/new age store called THE COOKBOOK FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE ANIMALS. It is totally vegetarian recipes for beginners to gourmet. For the strict vegetarian, this is a good book as the recipees use no meat, eggs, sugar or honey and have no choloesterol. It shows how to make some good burgers and cheese substitutes. It originally retailed for $9.95 (i got it for $5). ISBN 0929274148 It is in it's fifth printing, but i think it was done by a small publishing house. If you can't find it, just let me know and i'll see if i can find you a copy.
On a side note, I also made the decision to give up soda pop a few weeks ago (for the second time. I feel much better though i miss root beer at times. You would be surprised at how addictive that soda pop can be and how much healthier you feel when you don't drink it after a month. I just find it sad to find that soda is cheaper than water at the grocery stores and gas stations.

Re: Vegetarianism
You can read organic magazines. They're the mega strict on foods you can eat if not meat.

Re: Vegetarianism
Oh wow SharB, I myself kicked soda to the curb a few months ago, and I totally understand where you are coming from. I still drink a can now and then, but for a while, I was drinking 3 to 5 cans of A&W an hour. Now I mostly drink water, lemonade, juice and tea (green tea rocks!) As for veg stuff, I am, and probably always will be a meat eater, but I have had Boca Burgers, and they are pretty good.

Re: Vegetarianism
gpicard7 if you think Boca burgers are pretty good try Morning Star Farms veggie burgers they totally rock esp. their tomato basil pizza burgers and philly cheese veggie burgers. Both are awesome.

Re: Vegetarianism
I found out that Soda Pop makes people gain weight or keep the weight. When others i know gave up soda pop they started losing the weight that they had been trying for years to lose and never could. The most notorious of the bunch was diet caffeine free coke as that is what most of them drunk a lot of. Ironic.
Juice, water, tea (herbal caffeine free) and i adore fresh lemonade. I have a hard time resisting chick-fil-a's lemonade for some reason.
They have a lot of organic stores where i am at and fresh markets, but everything is so expensive. I love Amy's Kitchen foods when i don't have time to cook things from scratch. They don't have a lot of soy (which for me is a no-no) in their products and are easy to fix and mostly vegetarian.

Re: Vegetarianism
Thanks Erin on the heads up on the chicken and corn dogs. I was kind of afraid to try them. Now thanks to you I will. As for the vegan thing as you can see by my first post cheese is my down fall to. HMMMMMMMM cheese.
