The Night Before (DVD) Review

Keanu Reeves, Lori Loughlin, Theresa Saldana, Trinidad
Silva, Tom ‘Tiny’ Lister Jr, Patrika Darbo

Looking at the passive performance Keanu Reeves gives
in "The Night Before", it’s a wonder he was never plucked
from obscurity sooner and onto the Hollywood map in the

first place. It’s actually this movie, the young actor’s skill-

base though (funnily enough) and "The Night Before" is a

passable affair.

Like a second-grade take on Martin Scorsese’s
excellent "After Hours", "The Night Before" is set over
the course of a night where a man attempts to break out
from the urban jungle he has – by hook or by crook-

found himself in.

Winston (Reeves) opens his eyes to find himself, all
dressed up in a dirty tux, and laying smack bang in the
middle of an alley. He has no idea where he is, or how

he got there. Over the course of the night, Winston recalls

that the night before he picked up the prettiest girl in
school (Lori Loughlin) up for Prom, only to end up in the
seedy side of town. He now has to work out where she
has got to, how this pimp Tito is that desperately wants

his head; and how to get his car back from a permissive
 thief.

Keanu Reeves obviously made this film before he was
famous, the made in 1988 tag on the back cover is a dead
giveaway. But it’s not as bad as you may think, just that it’s
been done before and at a much more pleasurable peak.
There’s enough interest in here to sustain the viewer, but in
reality you’re better off spending your money on some of
Reeves’ finer work like The Matrix, Point Break, and of
course Speed.

The DVD of "The Night Before" has been handled nicely.

The menu design has had a bit of thought put into it,
with street signs standing in for the token ‘play’ buttons
et al. Extras wise, all you find is a trailer.
