Re: Pick your Poison!

I thought I might rekindle this topic.

My top ten modern horror films, in no real order:

1 Return of the Living Dead
2 The Thing
3 The Re-animator
4 Dead Alive
5 Bad Taste
6 Ju-on: The Grudge
7 The Eye (china)
8 Audition
9 Tale of Two Sisters
10. The Gate (I haven't seen it in ages)

I grew up watching a ton of horror movies and it remains a favorite genre of mine. There are many other films that deserve honorable mention like The Stuff, Triollogy of Terror, and the whole 'slasher' sub genre..altough it isn't really my cup of tea. I prefer stuff that is just out there.

And more than just gore, like the disgusting Guinea Pig films out of Japan. That stuff is just wrong and in no way, shape or form 'entertainment'.

Zombies, comedy, and a boobie here and there is all in good fun.

I am happy to see horror going back to the only roots though. Movies like May, Love Object Ginger Snaps and Saw are quickly becoming new favorites. I also have a bit of a thing for the serial killers series Dahmer, Bundy, Gacy, Gein and all film based on real killers that have been put put lately that are often an interesting look into the psyche of serial killers. Gacy was very strange, he was played by Fancis from Pee-Wee's Big Adventure.

Re: Pick your Poison!

Wow. Um. this is a toughy. I haven't seen a lot of the old horror films that I used to watch when I was a kid. Lemme think. What did I like. I really don't get scared of movies. Never have. Even as a kid watching horror flicks, I wasn't scared, but lately, I've been a big wuss.

1. Signs (first actually horror film I've seen in theatres, scared the f**k outta me for about a month, just because I creep myself out, because I'm a doink)

2. The Ring (second movie that scared the hell outta me. Don't know why, just creepy)

3. The Grudge (oh my gawd, The Ring looks like a pile of puke compared to this one. Really disgusting and creepy and gross aaaand no more of that one.)

OK, Those were the ones that have actually frightened me. Now here's some movies that I've loved when I was younger. But keep in mind that I haven't seen most of these ones in like, forever. And they're in no particular order either.

1. Candyman
2. Children of the Corn (ended up buying it not too long ago, kinda boring. Oh well)
3. Hellraiser
4. Nightmare on Elm Street
5. Pumpkinhead
6. Dawn of the Dead (not scary, just gross)
7. Return of the Living Dead
8. Saw (F**KING LOVE this movie. Not scary, but bloody brilliant. Can't wait for the 2nd one)

K, I can't think of anymore right now.

And now I'm going to bore you people even more with movies I like. Here's some horror/comedy/just-plain-cool movies I like.

1. Death Becomes Her
2. Beetlejuice
3. Army of Darkness (I liked this one better than the Evil Dead movies, but I still like Evil Dead)
4. Nightmare Before Christmas
5. The Witches of Eastwick
6. The Tales from the Crypt movies. And the show too.
7. The Island of Dr. Moreau

Yeah... again, that's all I can think of.

Re: Pick your Poison!

Okay, so I must be odd, I went looking for Blood Moon as soon as Scott mentioned it was released. I have owned it now for three years! I LOVE it, and watch it every so often now, just because I LOVE Tim Curry, and watching Scott poke things into his flesh is the closest I am going to get to seeing him perform, unless some miracle happens and either he comes here, or I get to Ontario!

Now, on to the movies I love! In NO particular order...

1. House By The Cemetary! (freaks everyone out! Thus this has become a real favorite of mine!)

2. Ginger Snaps (just because it is produced by a group here in Calgary that I have met since. The whole indie film thing just has me so happy!)

3. 13 Ghosts (I love this one, because I am a make-up artist and the ghosts in this one are so visceral)

4. The Evil Dead series! (just never let anyone talk you into a Evil Dead drinking game, unless you are used to drinking your body weight in the first ten minutes!)

5. Session 9 (just plain creepy)

6. SleepAway Camp (if you have seen this one, you will know why!)

7. Donnie Darko (it's a great one to twist your mind)

8. Final Destination (only because it has my ALL TIME favorite death in it! Getting hit by a bus is FUN!)

Those are the ones I can think of off the top of my brain! I know, some of them are horribly cheesy, but they are all great in their own rights... The one that still to this day I cannot watch though, is Poltergiest. I watched it when I was 9 and it freaked the hell out of me. I couldn't sleep without my closet being closed until I was 16. Even now, if my cat manages to open my closet when I'm in bed it will freak me out. Damn my cat and his trying to find the best ways to freak me out!

Kitten, great choices. All of those films are sinful little pleasures for me as well. The Evil Dead is one thaht I always deeply loved due to the fact that it was the very first real horror film I ever watched completely hammered on New Year's eve in a cabin in the woods.

Child, what seems to be the problem with Amazon? Are you using Amazon.ca? Out of print? On back order? Did the monkeys in shipping break out of their cages?

Try Ebay.ca, In fact, there are about a dozen copies on their right now...dvd or vhs (watch for the crazy shipping costs though...damb ebay sellers and their pocket lining). emoticon

Heeeey... Guess what? Ewan McGregor and Tim Curry are doing voices in this new animated movie coming up called "Valiant". They're pidgeons. Discuss!

Scary movies?

Lets see. . .
In no paticular order.

Alien

The Thing

Dreamscape (the snake-man freeked me out.)

Gremlins

Chiller

Dr. Phibes

as for bookes. . .

Midwich Kookoos
Dracula
Frankenstine.
Day of the Trifids
Layer of the White Worm
What can I say, when reading horror I go for the classics, but the only book I've read that I can truly say realy scared me was Barkers Books Of Blood. Now that is one guy with some wierd stuff up in his attic.
