Rock-N-Roll...

...if that's what you want to call it. There are so many sub-genres of music these days. So whatever, hardcore, metal, emo-scremo-metalcore, "alternative", etc.,etc.

I just got back from the SolidState Records 'Young Bloods Tour' and, call it what you will, these bands ROCK. I saw 'em in Dallas, and they are headed east from here to Mississippi and will be hitting several spots out east: South-side and up north. So go support these amazing young bands if they play a venue near you. You won't be sorry. And yes, these are Christian artists.

You can see a list of tour dates at the Tooth and Nail or SolidState records website, or just search Young Bloods Tour.

These kids are sporting lots o' nice ink, too!

Oh yeah, and there's this really rad poet guy named Bradly Hathaway. You should look up his site, too. Great stuff.

I love rock-n-roll.

Wow, I figured out how to make a link. I'm a freaking computer GENIUS! ok maybe not.

Yeah, I spelled BradlEy wrong originally, but it's fixed now. He's so funny. There's some serious stuff too. You have to be young (at heart at least) to appreciate some of his poetry. But I have a feeling you are, Roscoe.emoticon

There is one poem that you won't really see the humor in unless you are familiar with the hardcore/indie music scene. It's called "The Annoying Hardcore Guy Who Overdoes It" or something like that. He accurately describes the way a typical hardcore kid dances and jokingly refers to "emo pansies". Hillarious!....because it's true!

You can get one of his cd's at the Facedown Records site, according to his site. It's only like $8.99, and more than worth it.

Thanks for the link-

Young at heart? I hope so - with a steady diet of pizza, hot italian sausage and fried food, I hope my heart has a healthy dose of "Young" going for it.

I'm 42 today, but have been into extreme music most of my life; I was a metal head back before there was an actual name for it, and was part of the original punk explosion; I was also part of the first round of hardcore, and was able to see now legendary hardcore acts like the Necros, Negative Approach, and the Misfits live at the Freezer Theater in Detroit when they were just pimply kids. I was also listening to the early stages of Christian Rock, back when it was considered controversial.

That's awesome man. And I thought I was old school. I've heard of all those bands. Of course the Misfits are a household name now, thanks to Hot Topic. But they were one of my favorites growing up, along with Minor Threat, Cro-Mags, Descendents, DI, etc.

But wow, you were there at the very begining. I'm only ten years behind you (32 next Jan.) and the things I've seen come and go and come again are crazy. I can't imagine being in there even earlier.

My first "big"(not literally) punk show was the band ALL(Milo had gone back to college) when I was 15. I also saw SNFU that year. Caught Social D., 7 Seconds, and Sick of It All in the late Eighties, too, to name a few. No Means No, the Accused, good stuff. Ahh, the old days. Wouldn't go back for anything!

No Means No is a great band, and nice guys to boot! I got to interview them in Toronto for a 'zine I published back then ... And their music still holds up well today. I only caught on to Social Distortion later when they toured with Neil Young and Sonic Youth.

That's an eclectic tour combination. I vaguely remember that.

Man,I need to find the No Means No album "Wrong". It has a few wirty dords on it, but those guys are just amazing musicians. And most of the lirics are really good on that record.

So what are the chances of you digging up some of you old zines?

Hi Guys!
I've been out of touch with a computer for awhile so am just getting caught up.

Happy late birthday Roscoe!! I turned 40 on the 18th of Nov so am not too far behind you! It's interesting to see that we were on opposite sides of the country but going to see the same bands. I was in Houston Tx in the early 80's and went to the "warehouse" on Friday nights for punk and Sat nights for metal. I was more into metal but dating a punker....interesting combo to say the least! ha I remember the punk bands better...D.R.I., Black Flag & others better I guess because it was fun at the time to watch people trying to get the bloodiest....the metal shows were tame in comparision!!
I went thru my "I'm getting old" crisis a few years ago when a kid at the church where we were going couldn't believe I was going to see Living Sacrifice...I hadn't percieved any difference in myself but whew it hit me that that kid thought I looked too old for a metal concert. Then to make it worse while at the concert I had on a t-shirt from a band I had heard at Cornerstone festival & really liked, Narcissus, and this girl...a total stranger caught herself saying "wow, I'm surprised someone your age know's who they are" I was ready for therapy!!! when did this happen....when did I start looking old!!???!! O well, hopefully when I'm 80 I'll still be rockin out!!

Re: Rock-N-Roll...and AGE

I'll be 40 in march, my wife is already 44. It hit me when I was doing a part time gig at a drive through working with a bunch of teenagers. I was maybe 30 then and this girl says to me, "You're pretty cool for an old guy." I'll always remember the episode of 30 something when Elliot tells Michael, "you know you're old when the teen age girls don't even notice you." Things that remind me are, Stryper released the Yellow and Black attack 20 years ago. MTV didn't have stupid things like REAL WORLD, and Headbangers Ball was as important as going to church. And finally, when I do happen to catch a female checkin me out and I think to myself she could be my aunt, I remember, oh yeah...I'm THAT OLD TOO!!!! Agh!!
