hi all, new here with lots of questions.
i found this site doing a search in a quest for some balance in my new venture as a tattoo apprentice. knowing full well that i will never go through anything that someone else has not gone through before, and i would love to pick some brains....in a wonderful seeking wisdom way, not a gross digging around in your skull way...hahaha.
i have been getting inked for 15 years, and i have been designing tattoos for about 5, i decided to try my hand at tattooing with my hubby as a guinea pig a few years ago.....since then i have had several people ask for tattoo's, but i do not want to be a living room scratcher.....so, recently i have found a really great tattoo artist to take me in as his apprentice, under the promise to work for him for two years post-apprenticeship.....i LOVE it.....
but i am struggling with the constant bombardment of the culture. i would love to hear about any experiences you all have had as beginning artists....how did you handle the day to day in your face stuff that as believers conflicts with the holy spirit in us?
my boss is the most laid back guy ever, so i know his understanding runs deep, and i feel completely comfortable expressing concerns about certain images, (he has his own limits as to what he will and will not do). but there is still the ever-present sense of oppression, and darkness. i will continue to pray as i walk in the doors, and continue to live as Yeshua asks me to. if you have any good advice or just stories about your first few months as an apprentice i would love to glean some info. from you......
thanks in all gentleness
b.

Re: hi all, new here with lots of questions.
something just lept off the page and demanded my attention. the part of your inquiry that is asking about how to deal with the daily conflicting stuff brought to your chair; specifically, you mention "...that as believers...". what struck me was, what do you believe? i mean, the elementary teachings, that Jesus is the Christ, is a gimme, i think. but more specifically, what is it you believe? do you believe He died once, for all? and have you always believed this? do you believe the kingdom of heaven is within you? (present tense). the die-and-go-to-heaven pitch: is that limited to the death in flesh? or do you believe in a present God, who is all, and in all? if your eyes cannot see in the darkness that some live, can you believe that theirs is a temporary part of their journey, and God has led them to you as He did the slaves to Abram; can you believe God, when He says He will never leave you, nor forsake you, and then extends that promise to whosoever?
i don't know that there is an easy method to dealing with those oppressed, for it is not an external issue to be problem solved. it is an inner man birthing; it is the birth-pangs we go thru in order to bring Christ into their world.
so, how are you supposed to handle the Spirit? for it is He who is responding to the need of the brother in your chair. it is He who is getting your attention. love is debtor to need; and need is the evidence that the supply has been met. so's where's this leave you? what do you believe?
respectful, s.
ps)you could always draw a line in the sand, a do not cross thing, regarding your ink. but i think sometimes it is beneficial to have someone to rattle off random thoughts to, that doesn't condemn you for having them; it allowed me to be pricked by the spirit, and caused me to walk in His ways, in the appointed time.
