Getting my half sleeve
I have been considering getting a half sleeve tattoo for well over a year. I have finally found the artist that I want to do it and some of the struggles that i have come across is, is this against god's wishes. I know that there is a verse in the bible that references marking your body. I am new to being a christian, I love my new christian life and i'm eager to learn more but one thing i do struggle with is making sure this is not against gods wishes. I have decided to attend a new church, and i was told that the pastor does struggle with people getting tattoos. He doesn't like them. I also here it from my husbands grandfather thinks its horrible that a girl would get a tattoo. I already have two and I dont feel that getting a tattoo has anything to do with the relationship that i have with christ. The only thing other than the scripture of not marking our bodies is that it would probably be considered worldly?? But so is buying a new flat screen monitor and a new purse and a new outfit. I could keep rambling these things that run through my head but i will spare you the boredom. What do you all have to say on this??
Thanks so much

Re: Getting my half sleeve
If you search through the blogs here...you will find this conversation happening over and over and over. Its a very valid question and struggle.
For my vote...I would say that if your pastor doesnt feel he likes tattoos...then he shouldnt get one. The question here is does it feel wrong to you or are you just worried about what others will approve of or not?
There is only one verse in Scripture that refers to tattooing and that is Leviticus 19:28. Pagans of that day were cutting their flesh and making marks on their bodies because of mourning for the dead...doing so to get the attnetion of false Gods. I do not think this pagan custom of the day has anything to do with tattooing today. To boot...right before it says not to "mark your flesh" it also say for men not to trim their beards or cut the hair at their temples. It also say not to wear clothing made of mixed blend fibers (cotton/polyester). So if we were too live by these laws we must abide by all of them for God gave them to the Jews of the times as a whole...not a part.
In the New Testament it doesnt say anything about getting tattooed. I say the argument (as my studying has brought me) is in Romans 14.
Each man and woman is called to live as they feel lead by God. We should nto judge what is right for others according to how God has called us to live. One man may feel it is ok to eat anything he wants...one man may feel he can eat only vegetables. We are all gonig to be judged by God and lead by God. So lets love one another and all of us seek out Gods leading for our decisions and our lives.
For the record...thats scriptural and accurate and thats my stand.
I wish you many blessings on seeking out Gods truth on this issue. I pray you find your way well. Yet above all....make the decisions according to how YOU feel...in the end of all things, when you are standing before God....its the decisions you make in Faith that matter....not how your pastor felt. He wont be there to answer for your decisions.
In Grace,
jayme

Hello!
Elsewhere on this site, SavedByGraceAlone says:
"if the ink that I get is a service to those around me, then I feel that, as someone who has been given a love for tattoos, I am almost obligated to get the ink."
So do you have any comment?
Take care.
