blah gauge question.

Okay, here we go.. I started gauging my ears last May. I got up to about a 2G and my boyfriend [who is currently at a 00G] told me that they were getting infected so I should take them out for a couple of weeks, well I was crushed because I love having my ears gauged. And it was just heartbreaking, hah anyway! I took them out for about 3 weeks and they went down to about a 10G and I waited a little while before I started going back up, well I got up to about a 2G and I was at 2g for about .... a month or two.. and I was like okay, I want to wear 0g's now. So..I used the same stretcher thing my boyfriend used [who had NO problem what so ever] and the right ear, was fine. No problems. Left ear however, was a little hard to get through and I left them both in my ears for a day, just so my ears could get used to being at that size before I switched jewlery.. so the next day around the time I stretched the night before I went to switch the jewelry. Annnnd... the left ear was infected, and bloody and completely gross. the right ear was fine.. No problems like I said before. So I decided well, theres no way this is gonna be able to be stretched again.. So I took them both out.. and let the left ear close up. Annnd the right ear is still peirced, but its not like i can walk around with one earring in ya know?

So my question is...
it's been about.. four months since that incident.
Annnnd I would like to get my left ear repierced and eventually start gauging them both again.
Do you think this is a good idea. Or should I wait atleast a year or so?

And any other advice you could give me on gauging/stretching would be fantastic!

Thanks so much!

The very first question I would ask is... do you sleep on the left side? Because, as silly as it sounds, its the typical culprit for why one side heals up pretty easy and one doesn't.

The amount of time you'd want to wait to re-attempt gauging your ears would be directly related to how bad your ears look/feel/scar.

There are so many factors that can come into play when stretching a piercing that can seem trivial but which can have a definate effect on if you are able to stretch successfully.

What type of jewelry are you using?
How fast did you go from your mall piercings to 2g? Under a year? Probably too fast.
Was the taper you used cleaned after being used on your boyfriend? Was the jewelry?
Were the pillowcases on your bed clean that night, or had they been drooled on for a week?

Tribalectic has a fairly decent guide on their site for stretching and can be found here:

The first rule of stretching is Patience!
