Clean Sweep for Ole Georgy!
Clean sweep for George W. Bush
"So Bill Clinton was right. In an interview with the Financial Times a few months before the US presidential election, the former President said that if the Republicans manage to make the war on terrorism and strong moral values the key issues of the election, George W. Bush would be re-elected.
And that is exactly what happened. I am not at all surprised with the electoral result as I always believed that voters would not risk throwing out their President in the middle of a 'war' - and I am referring primarily to the war on terrorism, not the war in Iraq.
President Bush managed to portray himself as a decisive leader with strong moral values and the best person to lead America during this difficult time, and the electorate went for continuity. Senator Kerry was portrayed by the Republicans as a person of weak convictions who could not be trusted to effectively deal with the threat of terrorism or to provide the American people with security.
Bush's re-election was impressive. He won 3.5 million votes more than his opponent, 51 per cent of the popular vote, and 31 states, and his party made impressive gains in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. The Democratic leader in the Senate, Tom Daschle, was defeated, making him the first Senate party leader to be voted out of office since 1952.
