I just reread this thread. Dark skin color according to DQ is for blocking harmful types of sunlight and white skin for absorbing it.
Even though dark skin would be warmer by absorbing more heat in a cold environment, that fact would just have to be overlooked.
Then too, there is much of Africa that is jungle and heavily forested, which goes against DQ's hypothesis too at least a little.
I might be wrong here but vitamin D is produced in our skin from sunlight exposure to give our bodies what it demands. This would make me think that other animals that are covered in hair or feathers must have some other way of getting what vitamin D does for us. Why then would we have discarded this advantage rather than keeping it?
Just another thought on this old subject as my mind turns to evolution today.
