What did you think?
New season, new network, new host, new judges, and several new twists (duets, trios...)
I'll post a review a bit later this week, but what did you think of the first show?

I really did not care for it. Maybe because I have watched NS from day one and was used to the way it was before....(talent)
I personally do not think Billy is all that great of a host.
Jewel and John were getting annoying with their little bickering going on. Jewel however at times I felt gave some good feedback but then in the next breath I was like 
I do like Jeffrey Steele and he is the only one with any common sense at times and is a bit more respectible.
I did not think any of the contestants were all that talented. As I said, I have watched NS from day one and there has always been fairly good talent, especially the first season. I did not think any of this years contestants had anything much to offer. Many sounded way off key, could not carry a note, and just plain were no where near what I had expected. I think the girl that was in the bottom two should have went and not the guy. I would have liked to have seen the guy who was voted off one more time after he would have maybe taken the judges advise in not "over doing it". I think he was let go too soon.
If I had to choose one, it would be the last girl who sang. She was by far the best.
Okay, who's next?............Let's here your opinions.

I enjoyed Monday night's show.
I'm hoping that now that the first show is over everyone will settle in and show us some of their talent.
I really liked Melissa and also liked one of the duos. Sorry I'm drawing a blank on their names, two young girls.
It will be interesting to see the mentoring sessions this week with the judges. All three judges are talented songwriters so they should have some good info to offer.

I forgot it was on last night until I looked up from the book I was reading and saw the DVR was recording something...I couldn't for the life of me figure out what I was recording...then I remembered. I didn't want to start watching in the middle so I'll catch up tonight. Last week no one stood out for me but maybe there will be surprises as the artists grow and the show progresses.

This show is more about the judges than the contestants. I don't want to see them mentor the contestants. I want to see contestants with talent perform and let the public vote for their favorites. One of the best contestants was cut by the judges on the very first show. Guess he didn't need any mentoring? BRC as host is pitiful.
Based on other comments I've heard about the show, I think this may very well be the last season of Nashville Star.

I am sort of waiting for something resembling the talent of previous years to happen. So far it has been about the guests performances, promoting Jewel's new CD and a spotlight on the judges...Making the judges resposible for mentoring the individual contestants seems like a conflict of interest for the judges. I don't know how they can be neutral. The judges do influence the voting with their critiques. I think Billy Ray needs to speak more from his heart and use those cue cards less...makes his comments between acts seem insincere...If this show does not pick up in interest level, I am afraid it may be cancelled. Sorry for the performers who are putting their best effort forward, But the show is badly formatted so far.
I am so disappointed. I was hoping moving it to NBC would expose the nation to the best New talent country music has to offer. So far, most of the songs they are singing are not even country songs. They are songs from other genres sung with a twang. It would appear that the show is designed to get TV ratings only. Talent seems secondary to good looking, young, cute, handsome contestants to attract the 12 to 20 yr old demographic. I was hoping this year's show would present us with another Buddy Jewell or Chris Young...so far, that is definitely NOT the case!

Was it just me, or anyone else think that Taylor Swift sounded horrible on the first show? It seemed to me that she just shouted through the whole song.

As I said in the other thread, I agree with Russ' comments and hope things get better!
Nope, it isn't just you. I like Taylor's CD, but protools does do wonders. She isn't good live at all!
