Re: I'M INTERVIEWING DANDI WIND!!!

HERE IT IS

1. Your music has evolved through each release; with ‘Yolk of The Golden Egg’ and future albums/ep’s, when you go into the studio do you think of a new album as an opportunity to explore new genres and sounds?

Yeah totally, if we don’t have anything new to say we definitely aren’t going to do a new album. I think that from Bait the Traps to Concrete Igloo to Yolk of The Golden Egg and also our new ep Fresh Humiliation there are very different things going on sonically and we probably wouldn’t release any of those things in our current state of mind.

2. What are you both most grateful for about the way you were raised?

This is an unusual question. I guess just that I grew up in a totally uncommercial environment, no different than someone might have a hundred years ago so I suppose I have a less “modern” way of looking at art; the business side of it disgusts me.

3. A lot of your songs have been remixed by other groups/band, and you remixed ‘Draw Japan by The Horrors’. Are there any other songs of yours you would like to see remixed? Are you planning on doing other remixes?

No plans to do other remixes – if something interesting comes up Szam may do more. As for being remixed it’s not really interesting for us. The songs are good the way they are.

4. Where was the best and worse crowd you ever played to?

So many of both – recently we’ve played great shows in Chicago, Jacksonville, DC and of course Vancouver is usually fun. Worst crowd would be Toronto. We’ve played there over ten times and it’s always really bad.

5. Have you ever seriously injured yourself or a member of the crowd during a show?

Yeah I’ve sprained my finger falling of the back of the stage, hauling down the projector screen in the process. Got a concussion from getting hit in the head by a ceiling fan while crowdsurfing, sprained my wrist when someone dropped me on my head once.

6. What are your thoughts before a show?

Nothing particularly just that hopefully the soundsystem isn’t ****.

7. For future gigs, what are you hoping for yourselves as a band to change? What would you like to see more from the crowd?

Well we’d like to see more OF a crowd for one – but apart from that we’d like to do something really huge performance wise with multiple video screens and a theatre type set that I could interact with.

8. Are there any albums that changed your lives? Why?

Well, probably something when I was a young. My dad had a “cool” friend who gave me cassette tape copies of Pornography by The Cure and Lodger by Bowie. Subliminally that was probably an influence – I was like six! After that I guess hearing Siouxsie, Bauhaus and Kate Bush as a young teen. Diamanda Galas as well.

9. Would you ever consider starting your own label?

We do have one, Concrete Igloo originally came out on Todtenschlaf here in Canada and also many moons ago we released a solo album by Szam with artwork by me called “Die Hautfabrik”. We’re putting out a limited edition EP you can ordered directly through myspace and our website right away called “A Smile Before Death” featuring a bunch of unreleased songs.

10. How do you feel about fans having started a Dandi Wind forum?

It’s flattering I guess. I wouldn’t read it as that’s a bit too narcissistic but if there’s enough interest then that’s nice.

11. ‘Concrete Igloo’ is filled with genius stop-motion films. How long does it take you to make them?

Weeks usually and then the editing takes a long time. I do everything myself and I’m not very technical so it’s quite slow.

12. ‘Todo O Dia’ is about being bored with work and just wanting to ‘rock’, but what exactly is being said during the chorus?

That song is so ancient – I think it’s pretty ridiculous actually… but the chorus is in Portuguese. It was inspired by something I heard chanted by children in the streets of Campinas near Sao Paolo when I was staying there for a while.

13. Which song do you absolutely love playing live?

Whatever we’ve just written – we’ve got a bunch of new songs that we’ve not yet play that will be interesting to hear in a live setting.

14. Do you ever want to make a themed album? If not, why? If so, what would it be about?

We have I suppose unintentionally; Yolk Of the Golden Egg, our long delayed 2nd full length is lyrically all about our horrible experiences in the music business in Vancouver, Montreal and especially Toronto. It was written during a very depressing time during a long Montreal winter where we eating from the food bank and brooding a lot. Our other new release Fresh Humiliation will have a Tribal/World kind of sound to it.

15. If you were to make a mixtape for your fans, which songs/band would definitely be on it?

Seek these out:

1. Kill The Child - Swans
2. Underpass – John Foxx
3. Dog**** – Skinny Puppy
4. Clones (I’m a) – Alice Cooper
5. You You - Malaria
6. Phantasm Theme
7. Mama - Genesis
8. Never Give Up – Nocturnal Emissions
9. Romeo’s Distress – Christian Death
10. Magic and Ecstacy (From Exorcist 2 Soundtrack) – Ennio morricone
11. Intruder – Peter Gabriel
