Flu like Symptoms

I understand there are several different strains of flu going on right now, the common flue, h1n1 swine, and what not.. but my local newspaper keeps using the phrase "Flu like symptoms" to describe people who are sick.. Either they have the flu, or they have a fever, sore throat or whatever.. Flu like symptoms are a whole bunch of things all put together.. but in my newspaper.. if someone just has a sore throat they will say 'A flu like symptom' and the repetitiveness in which they repeat the phrase really peeves me off.

Fear sells...sensationalism sells...
But what is so ironic is that right here in the local area, more people were killed in ONE car accident yesterday, than have died from all the "Flu types" combined this year!

I agree. If people would just wash their hands, and do the things they would normally do to prevent the flu, then they have a good chance of being okay.

Yep....hubby and I hit a TON of tourist spots this summer...
Yellowstone
Mackinaw Island, MI
Niagara Falls, NY
Bar Harbor, MAINE
Branson, Missouri
And we were among 100's of 1000's of tourists from all over the world.
Every place literally had giant bottles of hand sanitizers nailed on shelves on walls or on the sides of trees or over garbage cans or by handrails....
And we used most all of them......neither of us got so much as a sniffle!
Now you watch....day before yesterday, I had to see my doc so she could check my blood pressure in order to refill my prescriptions, and I'll probably come down with something after sitting in a very, very crowed waiting room for an hour and a half! emoticon

I hardly ever get around a lot of people.. lol.. well it is mainly because of my sleep schedule.. but I've already some how gotten sick this season.. It wasn't the flu, I don't think.. but it was something.

It wouldn't be as bad if more people had more sense..stayed home when they were sick instead of heading out to Walmart or whatever.

At work every year, people come in when they are sick..or drag sick kids with them. One woman last year told me she just left the ER with her daughter who had bronchitis...so go the hell home!!!
Anyway, I clean my desk off every morning..sometimes multiple times - think I will this year. I have hand sanitizer that I use..will probably use it even more this year.

I hated it when I was working, and people would be sick there.. The clients were developmentally disabled, so a lot of them couldn't tell you they were sick.. or whatever.. the people in charge of their homes just wanted them 'out of their hair' and had them come to work sick.

I agree.. but the place I worked at was no better than the homes.. here is how they treated their staff:

quote:

For those of you that don't know.. I had bronchitis, This week.. I called into work and said I was too sick to come in.. and the Boss told me I should come in to work anyway, that everyone else had it too and they come in.. So I walked there, in the 20 or so degree weather.. Clocked in at 8am, and by 8:30 I had vomited twice.. and once some got on my bosses shoe lol. So They finally decided I was too sick to work, and they let me go home. I know you all were dying to hear that. lol.

Certainly sounds like it.

People need to stay home when they are sick...of course with the stupid policies that most companies have now, you can't miss any work and keep your job short of being on life support.

Yeah I've noticed that.. or you have to have a Dr.'s excuse slip.. There are times where I am sick, but don't need to see a doctor.. I just need some bed rest is all.

Right.
And now with this N1H1 going around, people are being told not to go to the doctor or hospital if they have symptoms so they don't spread it to others..then someone else was saying that the reason so many are dying is because they aren't getting medical care.
Make up your mind already.

I agree though.. I've even heard of business' and or organizations saying to contact them online during the flu season instead of in their offices.. The Mass fear hype is really annoying.

I imagine it is a lot more than people who had died of swine flu. 31 people are a lot.. but if you look at the bigger picture.. it is just a small percentage compared to other things.
