Hurricane Katrina thoughts

I am reminded of Sodom and Gamorrah (sp). Gay bars, urban attitude, people who are poor - but why does poor have to mean helpless? Many people are poor, does that mean that they have to live in squalor and immorality? Does that mean that they have to stay poor? Poor is a state of mind, and not the contents of ones pocket book. I am sure some poor don't know how to better their situations.. and live in ignorance of the fact that they can change their situations - not necessarily their financial status but the way they live.

Anyway, New Orleans has the "sin city" reputation (as does Vegas but the two cities are much different from each other) and one wonders why it took God so long to dispense their just rewards.. too bad some innocents had to be "punished" too.. but my feeling is that many good people have gone to glory, having died in the event.. others have been left to be an example of strength and love by their very presence and attitudes amidst the troubles.. others are being disciplined for their lack of integrity and morality..

I am sure New Orleans will rebuild. I find it sad that the disaster response was so unorganized. But that could have been different had the event been planned for years in advance instead of pushed aside and even though the powers that be knew it could happen, they did nothing about it. The incident also shows that sometimes human nature steps and distracts from what needs to happen.

New York had her act together when 9-11 happened.. New Orleans doesn't seem to be gaining that reputation.

Read Neamiah Chapter 1 verses 1-5. Our pastor preached from that yesterday and made an analogy between the situation that hezakia and neamiah (excuse the spellings) and the situation in N.O. He urged us to get our own houses in order and pray earnestly about what God would have us do to lend support to the situation.

Well I have rambled enough and I am sure I haven't quite been able to really express what I am thinking but have only implied and alluded to my thoughts.
