A History of Violence

I saw this Sunday night and have wanted to discus it since.

Has anyone here seen it? emoticon emoticon

My friend called it very raw which I think is a good discription.
It is a wery well made film. Also not really a good idea for young people. Very harsh sceans and subject. emoticon

I'd love to talk more about his if anyone else would. emoticon

Re: A History of Violence

Here it goes....

I did not like this movie. Not cos it was violent or anything, just cos there was no point to it. I literally just watched it and have to say it was rather disappointing (then again, I am NO fan of David Cronenburg, who's a Canadian director).

First off, the acting was REALLY BAD. Like so bad I could smell the rotten eggs from here! Viggo was the best actor in the film (and of course Ed Harris and William Hurt), but the chick who played his wife was wretched! The son was even WORSE than she was, if you can get any worse.

Second off, it wasn't believable. The part where he basically rapes her on the stairs (I thought I'd think it was sexy), but it ended up being creepy and gross. I mean, she just found out she has been married to a stranger, and then opens her legs and lets him have his way! WTF?!

OH AND THE WORSE part was when she found out about him, and he was in the hospital bed...she started to hurl in the washroom....THAT was bad acting. It was like he wasn't even finished with what he was saying and she was getting sick. The noise of it wasn't even believable.

Then you have freakoid Tom/Joey on the hospital bed saying how he took Joey in the desert and killed him. CAN YOU SAY RESTRAINING ORDER? CAN YOU SAY GET THIS MAN SOME MENTAL HELP BECAUSE HE IS GOING CRACK-O!?!

Yeah, then after all that, she wants freakoid to take her on the stairs. I don't care HOW MUCH she once loved him and if he is the father of her children, you just can't pass off something like his 'history'.

Lastly, the ending was just f*cked up for me. All those dead people and no one wonders what the f**k is goin' down at Tom's place? I mean, HELLO! I guess what wasn't believable to me was that he gets off scot-free after this, and the family goes on like nothing big just happened....'oh our freakin' murdering, psycho daddy's home, let's pass the meatloaf!' WTF?!

Having said all that, I guess I shouldn't be surprised at the quality of the script or story or directing or acting...I mean, after all, there was Canadian money in it (and Canadian actors - *shudders*). Plus, this director is one that I have sworn off of after some of his sick movies in the past. I only took a chance on this one cos it was a Viggo flick (yet he's done some weird-o movies in the past, just see 'Indian Runner').

Bottom line: Cronenburg is a wretched director and the movie resembled that guy who had his face blown off by Tom/Joey in the diner (who is, by the way, a Canadian actor!) haha! emoticon
