Truth
What is truth?
Is there such a thing as truth?
These are difficult questions that we must answer and answer with certainty before we ever begin to try and explain the truth of the Bible to a person that is skeptical, whether agnostic or hard atheist. May the discussions begin.

Re: Truth
But we're not skeptics.
I found this printed in front of one of my Bibles. It said, "Truth is truth, time doesn't change it." I like that.
Now, Pontius Pilate asked, "What is truth?" when Truth was standing right in front of him! Not everyone will, or even wants to, recognize truth. Especially these days.

Re: Truth
Well, I have heard that all societies create their own mores and values. So wouldn’t that would make truth a fluid concept effected by the morals and standards of a given society?

Re: Truth
Wow, I decided to google "what is truth" to see what would pop up. and of course winkipedia popped up on top. I didn't really realise how many different theories and such, how much scholarly turbulance there is with the subject of truth... here is a link

But we're not skeptics.
Duh! This forum is called FACING SKEPTICS, don't you think discussion on how to do this would be a good thing.
quoting I found this printed in front of one of my Bibles. It said, "Truth is truth, time doesn't change it." I like that.
This is another issue when dealing with skeptics especially the hard atheist. They do not believe anything in the Bible therefore to them it is not a reliable source for debate, not even historically.
quoting Now, Pontius Pilate asked, "What is truth?" when Truth was standing right in front of him! Not everyone will, or even wants to, recognize truth. Especially these days.
There it is...Pilate didn't know what truth was either.
If you try to define truth with dictionaries you come up with all kind of different definitions, therefore IMO man does not have the answer, but certain truth does exist and now we have to prove it. In todays time, the post modern era we cannot work with the same assumptions that we did just 20 years ago. At that time people would join you in your search for absolute truth, but it's different now. Before we begin to lead people to the truth of Jesus Christ, we may have to lead them to the truth of truth. Common ground must be created before the gospel can be proclaimed. Facing skeptics today and bringing them to the truth is a difficult task and we must be prepared.
Another thing we'll face is that skeptic's rely on tangible, visual or scientific evidence for truth and nothing else. Mans thinking has changed. Truth today has come to be relative, subjective, perspective, pragmatic , objective and even skeptical meaning that truth cannot be known with certainty. I once asked an atheist what truth was, he answered the sky is blue, see it's visual. I then asked him if that was true to a man that had been blind all of his life. No answer. He then said my wife (his wife) had blonde hair and blue eyes. I said I have never seen your wife, He replied but it's true. I said Bingo! Absolute truth exists without being seen. He said but I can prove it. I said no need to it's already true. So what is the truth of truth? How do we pinpoint exactly what truth is?

Exactly, now go to some other dictionary sites and you find the same thing. Glad you came in here to help us out.

Re: Truth
I think it's just an excuse, really. They attempt to deny any kind of absolutes (which in itself is an absolute) just so they don't have to be held accountable.
John MacArthur has some good info on this post modern garbage.

Re: Truth
Truth is truth. It doesn't change and that is different from mores or values which can and do change.
Psalms 86:11 Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.

Re: Truth
Ok the subject is absolute truth and how do you prove what is absolute truth. Well here is an example:
Do you have to feel or touch something to know that it is absolute truth. All your life you have been told that boiling water is hot, but do you have to touch it to be sure? According to some people you cannot know that it is hot until you touch it. You can see it is boiling and you believe it is hot but if you haven't touched it can you be sure?
The Sky is blue. Is It? You can see it but can you touch it?
We breathe in several gases including oxygen. Do we? Can you see the oxygen in the air? Can you feel it?
Now some people are going to say I can feel the air and or oxygen when I breathe in and out in my lungs.
Well guess what I can feel the Holy Spirit in my heart every time I meet a Brother or Sister that needs my help. I can hear God talk to me every time I pray and wait to listen for His voice.
So absolute truth is what you have come to know through your learning and growing. Is God absolute truth? You bet He is and if you don't know it now then someday you will when you stand before Him and account for every thing you have said or done in your whole life. And that is when my absolute truth will be shown as Jesus steps forward and says "Father I have already took his punishment!"
That My Brothers and Sisters is absolute truth!!
May My Most Gracious Heavenly Father Bless You With All the Blessings Of Heaven!!AMEN!!!!
