looking 4 advice

ok so i admitt i have no idea where to put this... but this seemed a good enough place to put it... feel free to move it if you wish... anyway as you probably figured out by the title.. I have a question.

ok So my brother and Dad have taken up a new hobby... i call it interrogating. They sit there and tag team... I mean it is bad enough when there is one of them. What they will do is, like todays topic. My Dad was attempting to prove to me that the Catholic church dictated what was put in the bible, and edited every thing so that it would all mesh together with out any contradiction. (That was after he tried to convince me beleiving in Karma was a Christian practice...)

Say a person can not just walk away. And things need to be kept simple, otherwise everything just flies over their head...

What is a person to do when around people with that sort of mentality about them?

This can actually strengthen you spiritually. I used to hang out on skeptic boards, and would have to search for some of the answers to questions they brought up that I didn't know. It was exhausting after a while, though.

Anyway, I'd say make them prove their points. Ask them where they got their information from. You can google "Bible Difficulties" or something similar and find some great apologetics out there.

I'll post a few links for refuting this kind of garbage. Also, check out some of the posts in the Fishers of Men forum - I've posted a lot of great stuff in there from the Evidence Bible and how you can prove that atheists don't exist.

Go on the offensive! emoticon

Here are a few good links that will give you some great answers to common skeptic questions. You might even want to raise a few questions of your own to see how strong their “faith” is in their disbelief.

Good advice from Mel.

Also try to keep it civil even if they won't be.

Oh, yeah, definitely remain civil! You have to live with these people! And we want to reflect Christ's love and our concern for their eternal salvation.
It's way more than some sort of debate. People's eternity is at stake.

Hi Skys,

In reply to your fathers specific claim try this. In 315 AD, Athenasius, the Bishop of Alexandria, identified the 27 Books which we recognize today as the canon of New Testament scripture. Now the Catholic church didn't make a proclamation on which books belonged in the NT till after the Epistle of Athanasius in 367 AD forced a decision. So the New Testament as we now know it was already in existence and in use by over a dozen Christian sects/denominations for a minimum of 50 years before the Catholic church ever decided which books belonged in it!!! So how is it that they decided what to include again?
