¿Contradictions?

Well, there aren't any. emoticon

But here would be a good place to post seeming contradictions in the Bible, so they can be explained.

Heard of any lately?

this is a good thread because there are many things that seem to be contradicting but in fact aren't. there is a logical explanation for everything. and it is bible proof

1st day
Genesis 1:3
And God said, "Let there be light," and there was light.

4th day
Genesis 1:14
And God said, "Let there be lights in the expanse of the sky to separate the day from the night, and let them serve as signs to mark seasons and days and years,

Many skeptics like to bring this up. It's not a discrepancy, however. But then again, the man without the Spirit will not understand these things, it will be foolishness to him. Maybe if they would read the entire Bible, they could find the answer.

For in the end it will be the same - light without the need of the sun.
In Revelation, it states that

Revelation 21:23
The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp.

Revelation 22:5
There will be no more night. They will not need the light of a lamp or the light of the sun, for the Lord God will give them light. And they will reign for ever and ever.

Good example of what might be mistaken as a contradiction.

Keep 'em coming Mel.

There are many, many seeming contradictions in the Bible. All you have to do is Google it. I did and the first sight claims over 508.

Yes, I believe that if you read simply those comparisons...you will be confused and think it is so...but I think we can logically explain most, if not all of them.

What is so interesting to me is how someone(s) can do so much research simply trying to find a problem with it, when I can read an identical passage and see nothing wrong with it. I guess if you look hard enough you can find a problem with justa bout anything.

Well hello, SDL! Glad to see you over here! Welcome to Harmony. emoticon

I've seen the long lists before (Viras) and they're really just meant to overwhelm. Many times, the answers to some of the most ridiculous accusations simply will not be accepted because people don't want to believe.
And other times, we may accept some things that might seem to be a bit of a stretch, or even just take them by faith when we cannot explain it yet.

Do you have any specific contradiction that you're not sure of? We've got a couple of pastors over here, maybe there's an answer. Or maybe the answer will be "we don't know."

Thanks for the welcome. emoticon

Nope...I have nothing specific that bothers me. Like I said, I think we can explain most of them away pretty easily (out of context, points of view, etc.)

What I have a hard time reconciling is how the God of the OT seems so different than the God (Jesus) of the NT.

God in the OT seems like a God of wrath and control...while Jesus seems to just break it down to "Love God, love your neighbors and we're all okay"

Re: ¿Contradictions?

I've got something on that. I wasn't really sure how to answer this kind of thing before, but then I found this small article in the Evidence Bible. This thing is great, lots of good commentary and articles about things like this. Here's what it says on the subject:
quoting

"Why does the Old Testament show a God of wrath and the New Testament a God of mercy?"

The God of the New Testament is the same as the God of the Old Testament. The Bible says that He never changes. He is just as merciful in the Old Testament as He is in the New Testament. Read Nehemiah 9 for a summary of how God mercifully forgave Israel, again and again, after they repeatedly sinned and turned their back on Him. The psalms often speak of God’s mercy poured out on sinners.

He is also just as wrath-filled in the New Testament as He is in the Old. He killed a husband and wife in the Book of Acts, simply because they told one lie. Jesus warned that He was to be feared because He has the power to cast the body and soul into hell. The apostle Paul said that he persuaded men to come to the Savior because he knew the "terror of the Lord." Read the dreadful judgments of the New Testament’s Book of Revelation. That will put the "fear of God" in you, which incidentally is "the beginning of wisdom."

Perhaps the most fearful display of His wrath is seen in the cross of Jesus Christ. His fury so came upon the Messiah that it seems God enshrouded the face of Jesus in darkness so that creation couldn’t gaze upon His unspeakable agony. Whether we like it or not, our God is a consuming fire of holiness (Hebrews 12:29). He isn’t going to change, so we had better ...before the Day of Judgment. If we repent, God, in His mercy, will forgive us and grant us eternal life in heaven with Him.
