Pastor of our church
Our Pastor has recently resigned to venture into other things. A former pastor of our church has agreed to come back. I am struggling with this because at this time he is battling divorce. He and his wife have been separated for about 6 months. Divorce papers have already been written and it appears that they will be signed and executed. 1st Timothy 3:4 tells us that an overseer of the church must be able to manage his own family and if he can't how can he take care of God's church? I really like this guy and he is very spiritual and knowledgeable of scripture. A good teacher. I think he should have turned down the offer by the church to return as pastor until his marriage issues have been fully resolved. Matter of fact I don't think the Church board should have even asked him to return knowing the situation. To me this appears to be an absolute disregard to the qualifications of an overseer set forth by God. If I am wrong somebody please correct me so I can put this to rest.....sheeeesh

Wow, that is a really tough one Free. I a sure I would be struggling with it just as you are. Unfortunately I am not sure what I would do either (not much help am I).
I pray that God will give you guidance, in how to handle this issue.
When I am not sure what to do about something, I pray. And then sit tight (try not to make any changes), and wait for some direction of God.
Hopefully Pastor Rick or Pastor Jr. can shed some light on this issue.
--- Peace, that brief period in history when everyone stops to reload.

Re: Pastor of our church
We had a pastor a few years ago who resigned the second his wife left him. I've always thought that was interesting, because the Bible never says you can't be divorced...just not married more than once.
1 Tim 3:4 is in reference to children, not wives.
Since the Bible doesn't specifically say you cannot be divorced and be a Pastor, it really is a matter of prayer.
Our church is so conservative, that I doubt a divorced man would make it past the deacon board...so I'll probably never have to think about this one...
I feel for you.
