Old Testament Laws

What do we do with all those OT Laws? When some smug atheist asks you if, as a Christian you wear woolen blends (Deut 22:11 ), how do you answer?
What about eating pork, not working on the Sabbath, etc? What do we do with these Old Testament Laws that they like to quote out of Leviticus and Deuteronomy? Do we really just pick and choose what we like, as we're accused of?
Well, here are some answers to these ridiculous accusations, in order to answer the fool, lest they be wise in their own eyes (Proverbs 26:5 )

The Law can be divided into three categories: Moral, Civil, and Ceremonial.

The Ceremonial Laws (animal sacrifices, the Sabbath, etc) were pointing us to a comming Messiah, and were fulfilled in Jesus, so they no longer apply.

The Civil Laws were written to a specific people at a specific time and specific place and do not pertain to Christians under the New Covenant.

The Moral Law still stands and applies to our lives now.

Normally, unbelievers like to quote the most obscure Ceremonial or Civil Laws, but the real problem they have concernes the Moral Law.

Another way of dealing with this issue is that all the OT Law applies unless it is repealed by the NT.
Or, none of the OT Law applies unless it is reiterated under the New Covenant.

Whichever method is used, they will bring you generally to the same place.

The atheists that I try to witness to ALWAYS brings up the Old Testament, and very seldom wants to hear anything in the New Testament. They continually want to argue about the OT. It get so frustrating at times.

Not working on the Sabbath isn't really an option, IMHO...It's one of the Commandments! So many people think that keeping the Sabbath Holy is one they can work around...but it's not.

No more than not killing or committing adultery.

I believe that the Sabbath is a ceremonial Law, and has been fulfilled in Jesus, who is Lord of the Sabbath.

Murder and adultery don't even have to be committed in deed for a person to be guilty. Our thoughts are also judged with hatred seen as murder and lust as adultery.

That's known as "leading you down a rabbit trail." They do this because they don't want to hear it, only argue and seem wise in their own eyes.
If you cannot keep them on track, they're not ready to hear it. Put your pearls away, shake the dust off your sandals and walk away.

Order ofMelchizedek ...

I believe that the Sabbath is a ceremonial Law, and has been fulfilled in Jesus, who is Lord of the Sabbath.

I think the 10 Commandments are MORAL laws.

How many other ceremonial laws were in the 10 commandments?

Just that one.

You never did explain how you determine what parts of the Bible are still applicable today.
