THE WORD for August 26
Who Cares
"Teacher, do you not care that we are perishing?" (Mar 4:38)
____________
It is silly when we decide to fix things on our own. And mostly I think we do it without thinking. We just don't look to him and ask... until we find ourselves struggling or frustrated.
And that's OK, we're still in training. It's one thing to tell people that they should trust Jesus during times of trouble. But Christian, it's another thing to be in the midst of trouble.
Does he care that our bills are past due? Does he care when a loved one is dying? Does he care when we lose our job? Does he care when we argue with one another? Whatever our circumstance, we begin by remembering that Jesus cares personally. Let's turn to him now.
Lord Jesus, thank you for caring. You proved it on the cross and you love us in all our circumstances. But we are still learning to trust in you. Help us look to you and walk with you through our troubled times.
Help us to now surrender our anxiety and impulse to fix things ourselves. Take our burden as we trust in you. Amen.
Today's very great and precious promise
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you. (1Pet 5:6-7)
We have God's Word on it.
