THE WORD for August 27
Learning Again
Go from your country... to the land that I will show you. (from Gen 12:1)

We are called to go from the country of our old ways into the promised land- righteousness, peace, and joy in the Holy Spirit. (Rom 14:17) Abraham got up in faith and physically moved on. But he kept falling for old ways.
When he was afraid that someone would kill him to get his wife he told her to say that she was his sister. (see Gen 12 and 20) Do you continue to have trouble in matters of the heart? I do.
Abraham was humbled when his lie was exposed, and ordered by Pharaoh to leave. Then he journeyed on ...to the place where his tent had been at the beginning (see Gen 13:3)- back where he started...
Have you ever felt like you were back where you started?
And yet Abraham was really moving on, learning to keep his heart obediently trusting the Lord.
And like he did for Abraham, the Lord is patient to repeat the lesson as often as we need. Let's pray.
Lord Jesus, thank you for your relentless help in freeing us from self-determined ways. Thank you for being patient and taking us through the lesson as often as we need.
Help us to trust you and obey into the land where you rule our hearts in your righteousness, peace, and joy. Amen.
Today's very great and precious promise
My son, do not regard lightly the discipline of the Lord, nor be weary when reproved by him. For the Lord disciplines the one he loves, and chastises every son whom he receives. (from Heb 12:5-6)
We have God's Word on it.
