¿Drums?

Hey Brite!
I think I'm going to get a drum set! I don't have a foggy clue how to play, but I've always wanted to learn. Maybe by the time you make it out here to visit, I'll be able to make some joyful noise.

That sounds really cool. But you know the girls usually go crazy over the guitarist or the singer (never over the bassist or drummer) Image
So you've never played at all before?
Are going to get some lesson's or try to teach yourself?

Some strange people will try to tell you that the drums are not a real musical instrument (crazy yes, but I have heard it from more than one person). Good luck brother, I hope you have a good sense of timing (I hear that timing is difficult to learn). I have played guitar, bass, mandolin, and have even sang a little, but all of that is easy compared to playing the drums. IMO the drummer is the most essential (and difficult) part of almost any band.

BTW does Mrs. Mel have a padded garage (preferably separate from the house, to send you too for all your "practicing"?

Well, I hadn't even considered buying it when I first heard about it because I didn't think the wife would want all that noise in the house. I mentioned it in passing, and thought maybe the kids could learn, and she said she wouldn't have a problem with this. I was shocked!
I bet she changes her mind, but it will be too late!
And no, I have no rythmn or sense of timing at all. I can't even keep up clapping in church.
Maybe ya better give me a few years. The kids will get it before me, maybe they can teach me.
Although, I can do pretty good with a couple of pencils and a desk. emoticon

Uh-oh sounds like me, no rythym what-so-ever. You'll probably need to get a metranome, or practice to recorded music for a while.
And it's true the kids will/can learn it much faster than you. That's why I haven't started teaching my kids how to play guitar, I don't want to be embarassed in a month or two when they surpass me.

When asked where/how they first learned to play the guitar/drums/bass, most professional muscians say that they used to play along to their favorite records when they were younger.

Not a bad place to start, just don't get upset if you can't keep pace for a while. And don't expect to be as good as they are. I enjoy playing guitar (and bass) much more in the last several years because I have resigned myself to the fact that I will never play as well as 99% of the other mucisians out there (especially the pros).
