Postmodernism, Tolerance and Political Correctness
Everything is to be tolerated these days. Gay rights, the feminist movement, New Age, atheism, and even witchcraft (did you know that Wicca is now a recognized religion with tax exempt status in the US?)
Well, everything except Biblical Christianity, it's open season on that one. Those "intolerant, absolute-truth, born-again fundamentalists."
Ah, but not all the attacks on the Church are from the outside. The biggest threat to the Church today is from within. Post-modernism, and it's ideas are infiltrating even Christian thinking.
From the book So What's the Difference? by Fritz Ridenour: quoting According to Christian pollster George Barna, 53 persent of Bible-believing conservative Christian adults do not believe in absolute truth.
From the Gallup poll comes perhaps the most strking statistic of all. Of the 70 perecent of Americans who say it is important to follow biblical teachings, two-thirds of these do not believe in moral absolutes.
Wow, that's a lot of deceived people who are calling themselves Christian. Evidently, they're not reading and believing their Bibles. Where's their spiritual armor? It wouldn't seem that they have any kind of personal relationship with Jesus Christ. I wonder if they're Christians at all? Maybe these are the tares among the wheat. Those who will come before Jesus saying "Lord, Lord" only to hear in return, "Away from Me, I never knew you!"
Matthew 7:23
Then I will tell them plainly, 'I never knew you. Away from me, you evildoers!
It really makes me think of this verse, too.
Matthew 24:24
For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible.
How do we avoid this kind of deception? By knowing the Bible, read it daily, know what it teaches.
As the book So What's The Difference? by Fritz Ridenour says, "We must know the written Word (the Bible) and the Living Word (Jesus Christ).

Re: Postmodernism, Tolerance and Political Correctness
I'm reminded of something Winkks posted several months ago (I will attempt to paraphrase).
"It is a good thing to have an open mind. But if you open up your mind too much, all of your brains will fall out."
Sounds quite a bit to me like the Post Modernism/Political Correctness movement.
If there are no absolute truths, than why have any law at all? Do as you will, and claim it to be "your" truth. If the world is truly tolerant, they will have to accept your truth no matter how repulsive it is.

Re: Postmodernism, Tolerance and Political Correctness
Amen y'all!
Yep, God's word is the only way we can keep from being deceived.
If there is no "absolute" truth, then that would mean God is not absolutely God. Instead he would be the aura of a good mood.
====
Society wants political correctness (new religion) to define and be it's moral compass. Tolerance is only a small part of that. Part of the problem of this "tolerance enforcement" is... their tolerance is delusional.
Trash on the tv, media in all aspects is the sneakiest and filthiest mind altering tool on earth. All of that is tolerated, acceptable! You can show the "gay" trash on tv, but you cannot "bash" the trash. Delusional? I think so!
This is a perfect example brother brite, of the mind being so opened that the brain has fallen out! Hehehe.

Re: Postmodernism, Tolerance and Political Correctness
And don't they want all this tolerance so that they don't have to feel like they're bad? No need for a Savior, no One to be held accountable to.
They sear their own conscience so they can sin guilt-free. And they are very angry when they're reminded of their sin, and that's when "tolerance" goes out the window!
It's funny (in a sad way ) how those that teach tolerance are so intolerant of Christianity.

Re: Postmodernism, Tolerance and Political Correctness
I was on another board, and this guy's sig line stood out to me. A pretty good definition of political correctness. Although a little... well, the man was a marine, what can you expect?
quoting Political Correctness is a doctrine fostered by a delusional, illogical, liberal minority, and rabidly promoted by an unscrupulous mainstream media, which holds forth the proposition that it is entirely possible to pick up a turd by the clean end!

Re: Postmodernism, Tolerance and Political Correctness
Very blunt, but difficult to argue with.
I must confess, I like it.

Re: Postmodernism, Tolerance and Political Correctness
So, I wonder what will be next, after post-modernism has run it's course and is found to be lacking?

Re: Postmodernism, Tolerance and Political Correctness
Maybe Jesus will return and we will be spared any further blasphemous ideology.
One can only hope (and pray).
