Re: False Teacher?

Paul Washer has said in his sermons that you cannot judge a man by what other men have said (or done), but you must comparing his/her teachings (or actions) with Gods word (the bible).

If a person's teaching is in compliance with the word of God then they are not a false teacher.
If a person's teaching contradicts the bible (in any way) then he/she is a false teacher.

(how did I do teacher?)

Ah good, I've got you quoting Paul Washer. emoticon

He also says that you have 2,000 years of Christian history to look at. If some "new" idea comes up that goes against everything that's been taught, chances are, it's false teaching.

Be like a Berean, searching Scripture to make sure what you're told is true.

Be like a Berean, searching Scripture to make sure what you're told is true.

Amen!
Not only searching the scripture but applying it to our lives. Some folks, the only scripture they hear is what the pastor preaches. They don't get into the word daily and apply the word to daily living. These are the people who are easily deceived.

Manipulation of the word is something to be watchful of as well. This happens on lots of forums and I have known one who takes scripture out of context to influence others on how to treat them.

Mind you, immature Christians lack understanding and wisdom and the process of transformation is in the works, praise God! But when one stagnates in an immature state, this is a warning sign of not being in line with God's word and being watchful of deception is a good thing. The bible tells us to guard our hearts.

Brother gary, sorry to hear you've been sick. Hubby has too and I think I'm getting a touch of it myself. We bought some "Musilex" yesterday at Wal-Mart.

Great post winkks!!!!!! emoticon

I agree!

I went to church for years (before becoming a Christian), and heard several people say: "If all you get from your relationship with God is from church on Sunday mornings, your missing out."
I didn't know what they were talking about until I joined a small group and actually started reading my bible.

Very sorry to hear about that Gary. Glad to hear you are getting better. Like Winkks and her hubby I've been sick too. I'm just about recovered, I think the Musilex really helped (but boy is it expensive).

Interesting question. emoticon

I didn't read the replies yet so I could give my first thoughts on the subject.

In my opinion a false teacher is someone who fails to see he/she has alot more to learn.
